Yes, I loved Majora's Mask & Twilight Princess, and liked Wind Waker a lot (given the very limited exposure I've had with it).dsheinem wrote:Despite many tries I cannot get into this game.
Is it possible to like a 3D Zelda game and not also like Ocarina of Time?
Finally my first chance to play through Ocarina Of Time.

I need to finish this game too someday... got as far as the Shadow Temple.
Re: Finally my first chance to play through Ocarina Of Time.
I didn't played back in day and the first time i played i love it (provably that was 4 or 5 years ago?) and even today i don't find the camera bad, the Z targeting is a good idea so you wont be hitting the air instead of your enemy and i only use epona on the field... but yeah navy can go to hell and put on and off the iron boots is a tedious.
When i play a old game i put my mind into standarts of the time and forgot anything that other game did better after that time.
Not my favorite zelda but i still need to play a lot of them.

When I say the camera I mean than when in a small or enclosed place it tends to clip and get stuck often. As for Z-Targeting it's more of the annoyance that comes with waiting for Navi to pop out (usually too early and too late), and how if you don't lock onto a target and hold that lock when it's near you can't lock on consistently or at all as it distances itself from you afterwards.Damm64 wrote:I didn't played back in day and the first time i played i love it (provably that was 4 or 5 years ago?) and even today i don't find the camera bad, the Z targeting is a good idea so you wont be hitting the air instead of your enemy and i only use epona on the field... but yeah navy can go to hell and put on and off the iron boots is a tedious.

EDIT!: Also, I don't see games as having standards for the time, only the expectation of the public and reviewers at large. A game is a game and should be judged like a good book, album, or movie, by it's merits alone. There are plenty of games that reviewed and played like crap to people ten years ago which are now gold-standards because people finally get and understand the concepts that were being executed within.
Not to mention the slew of AAA rated games from the past for which the exact opposite has happened.

Re: Finally my first chance to play through Ocarina Of Time.
I got into OoT a couple years after it came out because everyone I knew in middle school was raving about it. (Actually got an N64 specifically for it.)
I played it up to the Shadow Temple, then got tired of it. Didn't actually beat it until I got the GC Zelda Collection from the Nintendo Power offer, but I played through Majora's Mask on the collection before that. So OoT fell farther from my favor, as Majora's Mask was a much more intriguing game to me. At least once I figured out how one is supposed to play it, which I had no clue about when I originally played it on the N64.
If I'm being honest, I like OoT, but the blind fanboyism that's followed that game since its inception has always hurt my perception of it. I like it more than Skyward Sword, at least, but that only puts it at my second least favorite 3D incarnation.
By today's standards, OoT is certainly clunky and highly unpolished, but that was never really an issue for me, or most others when it was released. Personally, I really dislike the pervasive feeling of, 'well I guess I'm playing LttP in 3D now. Ho-hum.' Epona is one of the most unruly things to control in tight spaces, though. I totally agree there.
Dsh, you should definitely play some of the other 3D Zeldas; Wind Waker and Majora's Mask are my favorites. There really shouldn't be any shame in not liking OoT. It's highly overrated. Not bad; just overrated.

It's decent. Still think Link to the Past and Link's Awakening are the best Zelda games.

Re: Finally my first chance to play through Ocarina Of Time.
Any time I've tried playing OoT I end up getting fustrated because of how dated it is. The camera control sucks. The N64 controller sucks. The framerate is bad, etc.
I plan on giving it a try on the 3DS though.
I loved Wind Waker (what I played of it anyway).
LTTP is still the best Zelda game I've played.

Now I take offense to that, the N64 controller is a damn good controller and has one of the best and most responsive analog sticks around (when they're not broken or worn out). Lots of people just tend to hold it wrong and completely pass it off as junk as a result.RyaNtheSlayA wrote:The N64 controller sucks.
