EV training can be done in a few hours, with IV breeding you can settle for a few points off ideal.

Then again, if nobody has EV/IV optimized pokes, it's still kind of even isn't it?

With my site being handheld niche, it's kind of pointless to do this on the PC.

EV takes a lot more (unless you mean per Pokemon) if you don't already have the power items on hand and at least one active Pokerus. IV is nearly impossible to get more than three stats perfect, and when you're min/maxing EVs you need those IVs to keep you from dying instantly or dealing minimal damage. You can't just say "OK nobody will use them", because at the very least I own two properly bred Pokemon, and my Pokemon knowledge is limited enough that I don't know what a good quarter of the moves out there do. If anyone here knew their stuff about the series they might as well get the Wonderswan before the tournament even starts.

I have been reading this thread with a lot of interest because all this talk of breeding and EV/IV stuff. Is there a simple explination of what these mean? I ask because my wife, who would claim to be a huge Pokemon fan, and having played a ton of the games, has never once mentioned anything mentioned in this thread, and I think she doesnt know anything about it. I honstely didnt know pokemon could be so deep, I thought it was "fire beats grass" and "water beats fire" etc...

Basically they are two values that affect a Pokemon's stats.

Two untrained pokémon of the same level and same species will have slighty different stats. There are a series of values known as Invisible Numbers which go from 0 to 31, the higher the number, the higher the particular stat. You can breed Pokémon with perfect IVs, hack them or abuse the random number generator of the games to get one. You don't need 31 except for speed, so having 25 or 30 is okey in most cases.

Except for Hidden Power. If you want a certain Hidden Power at maximun strenght the IVs must be exactly right, which is a pain.

Effort Values are similar numbers which are gained through combat up to a maximum of 510, creating the well-known difference in power between a wild pokemon and a trained one. You gain them based on what pokemon you fight, fast pokemon give Speed EVs, defensive pokemon give Defense EVs, and so on. At level 100, 4 EVs in a given stat give you one extra point in that stat and you can have a maximun of 255 EVs in one to get a bonus 63 points, which is a lot more than it seems!

This is incredibly useful and allows for a huge variety in how you use pokémon. For example, you may want to give 252 HP / 56 Def / 200 SpD to Togekiss to give it a good bulk and take attacks better, or you may want to give it 252 Atk / 252 SpA / 4 Spe to turn it into a powerful mixed attacker.

Hope that helps :)

I think I could get in as long as the time is right, but if we use cartridges I will need to ask for a DS, mine is broken.

To be a little more specific, IVs (the breeding ones) can only be controlled in 2, maybe 3 stats at the most without insane amounts of luck. EVs come 1 or 2 at a time if you're new, but with the six Power Items that you can spend battle frontier points on and the Pokerus (long story, think of it as sort of like shiny but contagious and affecting gameplay instead of colors) you can get up to 16 at a time if I remember correctly. These Power Items are also basically necessities for breeding itself, as a Pokemon always passes down that IV if it's holding the corresponding Power Item, as opposed to hoping the game chooses the one with 31.

No deadline, just going to keep it active until let's say 10 people are on board, then there will be a period for everyone to get things in order.

I can supply pokerus to anyone who needs it for EV training. Also, don't forget you get use protein, zinc, etc. for up to 100 EVs in a single stat.

With IV breeding, the parent pokemon's IVs do have an effect on the offspring.

If you want to check a newly hatched pokemon's IVs, you can enter into a lvl 100 wifi battle and look at the stats there, or use 99 rare candies, check the stats, then reset.

EXP share distributes both EXP and EVs.

In 4th gen, you can check a pokemon's nature before hatching the egg to save time by having your cursor over it in the box, pressing l or r to switch to an adjacent box (make sure a pokemon is in that corresponding spot) then as the lvl, type, and nature info starts to scroll, switch it to the egg with L/R right before the nature shows up and you'll catch a glimpse of the egg's nature. I don't know if this works in Platinum, but my guess would be yes. I'm assuming it was fixed in 5th gen, but I haven't actually tested it.

By the way, I want to apologize in advance for using the single most annoying monsters in existence. Not my fault, I was born a douchebag.
