Toaplan and Konami are my two favorites. Taito might be third.

I was playing R-Type Leo today, EASY GAME EASY too easy even.
I am no expert shmup player...so, I consider grinding through the original R-Type one of my greatest gaming acheivement (even though I am certain that there are people here who could 1cc it).

Axelay (SNES) and Life Force (NES) are the only shmups that I really consider "easy"...
I SUCK at Axelay. Like can't clear the first stage suck.

I can't 1cc anything, I did somehow manage to 1cc Karous.

IDK, I like so many things from different devs.

Seibu, Toaplan, Psikyo, Cave, Capcom, Konami, Raizing... it's hard to choose.

How can I forget Psikyo? When I was first Shmupping 10 years ago they were the first company I really enjoyed.

I'll go with Raizing as my favorite with Cave and Toaplan close behind.

Maybe Taito? I love the Darius series. Cave, too.

I have to go with Cave. Just too many games that I could play for months and not get bored. I love Raizing's style of shooters, so they were a close 2nd, but 2 of my favorites games in the Raizing style happen to be Cave games

Cave is amazing. I think we'd all be really bummed if Cave didn't exist. Even if it's the obvious answer, it's kind of obvious for a reason.
