Anyone have this feeling sometimes on video games?
Re: Anyone have this feeling sometimes on video games?
I had the same feeling a few years ago. My solution was to sell off the more modern systems and focus on playing the older games I had skipped and the ones I enjoyed playing repeatedly. Basically, I only own what I will play.
Selling half my NES/SNES/PS1 collection (ending Dec 1):

I'm kinda the same way. I know that I've decided the 360/PS3 are the last consoles I'll buy. I'm out of the videogame racket. I still love games, and will play the backlog over the next few years, but I have zero interest in the WiiU, and even with a JTAG'ed 360 and Jailbroken PS3 I just haven't been up for playing. I've played Planetside 2 a bit the last couple of weeks but even on that game I havent played in about a week. I missed 2 double XP events too.
I still have my cabs with a couple of arcade boards and NeoGeo MVS, but honestly the thing that's gotten my most attention since it came out was the NeoGeo X.
I've definitely transformed from a hardcore gamer to a normal gamer, to now a very casual gamer. I wish i could say it was because I'm so busy with work and life, but it's not the case. I'm just not that into games anymore.

I don't understand why so many people put themselves in a bind due to this sad commercial excuse for a holiday.mas wrote:Since Jan is here this is where I'm tight on cash like everyone else due to christmas.

I'll never understand this mindset at all, but I guess maybe I've just always had a fair balance of a few hobbies and alternate enough to always love them all. Been gaming for 20+ years and have never felt like the interest has lost any merit at all. I've never really "moved on" from my other hobbies as well, so I guess I just easily stick with what I like and that's that.

It's normal. I go through this a couple times per year, but since I know I'll be back into games soon enough, I don't get rid of anything. I focus on other hobbies and don't touch games for weeks. Just ride it out. The gaming bug will come and bite you again.

I think well for my case you want to be on a budget but for me in which I was on a budget I ended up spending more because I want my kids to have a great christmas. I mean I'm not broke but I usually spend 15.00 a week in games. That's 60 for the month. I think I will just put that into my savings account for a later day. Besides This way here I can get project justice for the dreamcast and that runs about 60.00. I would buy some gamecube games but I think it's going to cost more than 60.00 for a zelda or a mario game soon. Have you seen the prices lately? Pure madness. And I wanted to sell my windwaker... thank god i didn'tHobie-wan wrote:I don't understand why so many people put themselves in a bind due to this sad commercial excuse for a holiday.mas wrote:Since Jan is here this is where I'm tight on cash like everyone else due to christmas.

I'm just going to box everything and not go into any stores or ebay or anything like that for the next month or so. I relized I'm not the only one and it's just a cycle. this way here if I dont see games then i wont play games and it will give me a new start. Hell I will just unbox 1 system at a time and keep everything else in storage.hashiriya1 wrote:It's normal. Honestly I had to double check the date of the OP because I swear this exact topic has popped up a few times before.

I'm just going to add to the pile of "it's completely natural". I think it's healthy as well to take a break and change around your hobbies. No one is saying you can't ever go back, but you should only participate when it's bringing you joy. If you push it too hard you would probably end up selling stuff or quitting all together.
Between September and December this year I've barely gamed. I was out playing music, moving, and starting a business. There just wasn't time to actually sit and get involved in the games I wanted to play. This month I was able to get a ton of games for cheap through sales and now the past week i've been gaming probably at least 2 hours a day. I almost always get inspired to play by someone talking about video games or being nostalgic.
