You're statement assumes that we remember these games primary on consoles; to the contrary, I discovered many of my favorite games in the arcade.

Galaga had a sweet rapid fire option in the arcade that really improved the game. That rapid fire was never available in the NES port (or any port since).

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was awesome in the arcade. I loved the graphics, the stereo sound, the illustrations on the control panel, and the cheesy side art featuring a photo of April complete with yellow jumpsuit and camcorder. Ninja Turtles II on NES can't compare.

Speaking of control panels, there's something about arcade controls that just feel right to me. I've wasted a lot of money on "arcade joysticks" for various consoles, but nothing comes close to the original.

Arcade is my preference, unless there was some kind of enhancement for the console version.

If the game is originally an arcade game, then yeah, I generally prefer the arcade.

Since cabs are tough to track down in these parts I do use MAME quite extensively.

There are some occasions where the console ports are better than the original arcade game (Contra). I generally prefer console controllers to arcade sticks too.

Boldfaced to clarify type of gaming arguement and not the cab itself. Maybe include this in the title?

Enhanced Arcade Game versus the Emulated Arcade Original?

I usually prefer the Arcade version of a game unless there are enhancements that work better. For example I love the PS1 Tempest X over the original arcade. On the other hand, I am mixed on the PS1 and N64 Robotron enhancement over the original on the PS1 Williams Classics disc. That said, there are inspired games such as Geometry Wars that take the Robotron gameplay further.

I know what you mean if you are aluding to the tactical dip switch feel in the pics of the older ball stick panels. The sloppy bat handles of later panels and home editions do not cut it for me either. There are Ball Sticks for consoles that work fine for me such as the PS1 Blaze Twin Shock and the Wii Tatsunko Stick. Both have been modded in various sites with arcade parts, but I find the factory clickers inside more then adequate.

I ususally play the arcade versions on compilations since, being 14, I don't have nostalgia for the console versions (thouh I did have a SNES until I was 7, I mostly played non-arcade games). The only exception to this rule isif the console versions have extra content, or if it's the only way to play without emulating.

I was going to say something to this effect but was obviously beaten to it.

Same here. While TMNT II: The Arcade Game was fun on the NES, nothing beats the original arcade version.

I really, really, really want to find a place that has a 4-player TMNT cab. Desperately.

As soon as I can add some more rooms on to my place (hoping by 2015) that will be the first or second cab I look to buy for my new game-room. I found one about six months ago but I no longer have the space. I need to start building. I did think about just storing it but I could not bring my self to do that.

One of the neat things about most of the NES era arcade ports is how many of the games were actually completely remade from the ground up. Often they were completely different from their arcade counterparts, and sometimes they'd be even better games. Ninja Gaiden comes to mind right away.

Not sure why you were so bothered about the idea of putting it in storage until you had the room for it. I'd have done it in a heartbeat.

A 4 player TMNT (Simpsons is acceptable as well) and a multi-slot MVS cabinet are pretty much at the top of my list if/when I ever decide to get another arcade cab.
