Does the Wii-U innovate gameplay?
Re: Does the Wii-U innovate gameplay?
Not quite. You can't be playing on the TV. Then someone else wants the TV.. so you continue playing the same game on the Wii U Gamepad screen.

This, to me, is more something that a lot more devices could be capable of if/when widespread demand is demonstrated. Sony already did it to an extent with the PSP, I could easily see it being done via wireless HDMI, and it'd be one hell of a marketing angle for Gaikai/OnLive type functionality.ZenErik wrote:Not quite. In a sense, doesn't this actually work against the notion of the dual screen setup? I'm not entirely sold on it in the first place, since while using two screens is common, focus is usually on one or the other. However, say you did have that, reducing it to one screen would throw things off.
Re: Does the Wii-U innovate gameplay?
Depends on the game. Some games like Zombi U NEED two screens because of the way they were made. Other games, like Tekken Tag Tournament 2 just display some of your move list on the second screen. Or have character bios on the character select screen. Cool but not necessary.isiolia wrote:This, to me, is more something that a lot more devices could be capable of if/when widespread demand is demonstrated. Far as I know, Zombii U actually does support just using the Pro controller as well. But, that's sort of my point. Supporting remote play means making the second screen optional, even if it is preferable.ZenErik wrote: Depends on the game. In a way, it's a double-edged sword. It's a selling point for the system, and could mean more developers offering alternate control schemes in order to support it. Possibly avoiding the "I wish I could map waggle to a button" kind of scenarios from the Wii. On the other hand, it gives developers long-term motivation to relegate the GamePad screen to nice-not-necessary status.
Basically, is it a feature that users are so sold on that they'd opt not to buy a game that doesn't support it?

I think Zombi U supports pro controller for the 2 player mode. But I don't think it does for single player? Could be wrong.isiolia wrote:Far as I know, Zombii U actually does support just using the Pro controller as well. But, that's sort of my point. The thing is, the Wii U comes with the Gamepad and does NOT come with a Pro Controller. Some games, like Nintendo Land and Mario, do NOT support the Pro Controller at all.

Only in multiplayer mode where the zombie master uses the gamepad and the survivor uses another controller. You could not play the main game without a gamepad as it is integral to the gameplay.isiolia wrote:

Re: Does the Wii-U innovate gameplay?
ZombiU works with nothing but the WiiU gamepad. It's critical to gameplay in that game. It wouldn't work without it.
It doesn't even support the pro controller for multiplayer, only a Wiimote + nunchuck.

I do not know if this is in the works, but I do think that it would be cool if Nintendo ported some DS/3DS games to the system via a "virtual console"-like service. Obviously, certain games like Contra 4, Sonic Rush, etc. would not really work, but I think that some games like Henry Hatsworth, Okamiden, etc. would be great on the console, especially if they upscaled the resolution. (Okamiden HD? Henry Hatsworth HD/Henry Hatsworth 2? Do I dare to dream?)

I think that'd be fantastic. Devil Survivor and The World Ends With You would be nice!prfsnl_gmr wrote:I do not know if this is in the works, but I do think that it would be cool if Nintendo ported some DS/3DS games to the system via a "virtual console"-like service. If Nintendo did that, I would probably buy the system. Get on it Nintendo!ZenErik wrote:I think that'd be fantastic.
