What are your picks for best/worst game of 2012?

I've sadly only completed one new game released this year, and that was Journey.

It was great, though, short as it is. It looks beautiful, it sounds beautiful and it's just a great experience overall.

Game of the Year: Max Payne 3 - The gameplay, the pounding, driving, music and varied settings. The interesting story and the whole presentation, come together for a really awesome and compelling game.

2. Journey - As Dave said, hard to say anything further about this game, but dang if it wasn't quite the experience. You owe it to yourself to play this, if you haven't.

3. The Walking Dead - This is almost in the not-quite-a-game category, but it is such an engaging story and that's what is key here. Quite a thrill ride for Clementine and Lee and I can't wait for the inevitable Season 2!

Biggest Disappointment of the Year: Darksiders 2 - I absolutely adored the fun gameplay and story of Darksiders and this came as a huge disappointment to me. The gameplay just didn't sync up with me as much on this game and the story wasn't interesting. And they severely underused Michael Wincott as the voice of death. Simon Templeman was such a treat in Darksiders, I wish they used Wincott to the same effect.

I don't play games that don't look appealing to me so I don't have a worst. Maybe Dear Esther. I can't remember if that was this year or last.

I didn't play a whole lot of games this year though.

This thread reminds me that I barely played anything whatsoever this year. Looking at my shelf, the only new releases I played this year other than niche robot games no one cares about were Journey and Lollipop Chainsaw. Was a really slow year for me.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt that way. I tried multiple times to get into Darksiders II and maybe I will again, but each time I ended up dropping it and playing something else. Darksiders II just felt kind of soulless and phoned in to me. It's just a by the numbers pastiche of other games like Zelda, Skyrim, God of War, etc. The story from what little I played of it was incomprehensible and completely boring.

Based on games that I played, here are my thoughts on the few:

Best game:Resident Evil 6: ANTHOLOGY (PS3)I know that RE6 wasn't the best of the series but by no means is it the worst(IMHO 5 was).RE6 Anthology is my pick of the year not for the game itself but because its jam packed with extras (which alone could have been a stand alone collection disk worth getting) extras such as,the complete collection of Resident evil 1, 2(best), 3, 4, and 5.

Worst Game: Kid Icarus for the 3ds
Good game made terrible by Broken controls and WACKY peripherals

WORST:

MASS EFFECT 3, dear god the ending, make it go away!!!!!!!!! Bioware has turned into EAware

EDIT: also for best would be sonic Generations, it was a very late 2011 title so I feel it is somewhat worth mentioning.
