Since the cab is already gutted to a conversion of sorts, the restore value is not here. That is okay since the decision will be easier to "destroy mod it" and get more use out of the cab. Maybe MAME it with an inexpensive desktop or mini tower inside? Throw in a large 4:3 CRT Monitor or even a 4:3 LCD Monitor to fill in the glass? There is only one speaker in the cab, easily replaced by a set of amplified speakers mounted at the inside top. Go nuts and use the existing controllers; mod the coin drop buttons to work as "coins" in the Mame Menu.

Think of all the two player and twinstick games you could add to it with the already installed NEO controllers.

Oh and please take a better pic to post in your OP with a decent camera. Does not have to be larger, just a sharper pic to admire the details.

EXCELLENT post. Very valid on ALL accounts.

Digital cameras of decent quality can be found at thrift stores for very cheap prices sometimes.

It's a conversion. Unfortunately there are plenty of those floating around... (usually not vertically orientated cabs, though!)

im assuming this makes it something rather unique then?

not really. :? it just means there's there's a neo geo overlay on the cp. and mvs games don't play in a vertical orientation (except the upcoming ng:dev:team shmup, but that's another story) so you can't even play neo geo games in that cab

even if it was in a piss poor shape as possible i would have still snagged it up
always wanted to make a mame or own my own functional cab before.
just out of curiosity what makes it "dynamo" as you would say? Like i said im a noob with cabs and would love to know the do's and donts for purchasing one (if i so choose to again) in the future.

dynamo is the name of the company. they made a lot of generic cabs. so their (especially non-working) cabinets are a dime a dozen. yours is most likely an HS-1

owning an arcade cab is awesome and if you're into it (which you seem to be) you can have a lot of fun learning and fixing it up. some people actually enjoy that process more than playing the actual games!

Why would you do this when there's already a perfectly usable arcade monitor in the cab anyway? Frankly he'd be better off just interfacing it with an ArcadeVGA card or something.

Picture quality wise that monitor likely will blow the pants off of any other CRT monitor he could throw in there anyway.

If you're suggesting that he remove the monitor because it's vertically oriented, you do realize that vertical monitors are literally just horizontal monitors turned on their side, right? If he's going to pull the mointor out anyway, he can just as easily rotate it back to a horizontal position and put it back in.

Just to clairfy OP, you have actually flipped the power switch on, right? Not just plugged it in?

If not, well, the power switch for my Mortal Kombat cabinet is on the top of the machine, left hand side. Try feeling around up there.

AppleQueso makes a good point , on both my Astros there are Power Switches on the PSU inside the Astro's........... you need to turn them on to get power to the Cabs.

the power cord runs right to a few components one being a transformer and the other being some little silver square capacitor looking thing, ill post pics of it tomorrow i plan on poking around with it a bit here in the next couple days.

you guys asked for higher quality pictures so i have them, took them with my dads phone it took way better pictures....but any ways here they are :)

a better resolution photo of the cabinet as a whole

Galaga 3 marquee
notice the marquee stands taller than the cabinet.....thinking about having it cloned to the plexy glass that is actually behind the marquee

Standard JAMMA harness is mono only. I don't know if there are any JAMMA games that do stereo, but I imagine they do it with a separate connector or something. Mono sound should be fine for 90 percent of what you'd want to throw in there.

was also thinking about running a second speaker in series with it as well just so i can hear the sound from both the left and right of the screen

The Galaga 3 Arcade monitor is "widescreen" so most Arcade games would be stretched to fill the screen if it were rotated. Its easier to obtain a larger inexpensive 4:3 VGA CRT from the Thrift Store. Maintain the correct aspect ratio for most Mame games and not invest too much money.

Should i do this just trying to figure out the issue? at the moment i just want the one game in it to work im kind of excited to play it as i really do enjoy SHUMP games personally.

Hopefully it is an easy fix. I think you will get bored after a few months when the cab is limited to just the one Arcade game. Especially if the cost is high for the repair, my reason for the suggestion to Mame it. Another option is Mame it with just SHMUP games and go with the existing monitor with a VGA interface card AppleQueso suggested. This is if the monitor is in good shape and serviceable.

Too many times I see posts of Arcade cabs being built and the Twinstick concept not included. A simple reconfig in Mame to support twinstick games with the correct wiring, something that should be considered when building a two player panel.

:/ Galaga 3 came out before WS gaming. It is tate (vertical) on the other hand. The tube looks like a ~25", standard for Dynamo cabs that this appears to be. It can be rotated back to hori.

If korn wants to get it back working, we need to start with the PSU. Got a volt meter? Also, does it even have a game board inside? I assume this is a Neo one slot conversion. Can that be confirmed? Is there a Prehistoric Isle 2 or SamSho 5 Special cart sitting in the slot??? Since the CRT does not power on, we need to start with basics. We need pic's of the PSU, transformer and power filter ("little silver square capacitor looking thing") area. The cab could have been a doner and stripped of some needed parts.

If korn wants to MAME it out with a PC, then this thread is dead to me.
