Re: Trading/Collecting/Customizable Card Games!
I have cards for Pokemon, MtG and World of Warcraft in a drawer. YuGiOh is the only one I keep up with and I'll be heading to nationals next year, as it's an open nationals in my country, so I don't have to qualify to enter.

You can find it for around $50.
The same company has another game in the works. This looks amazing:

I'm already thriteen plays into Android: netrunner and I'm playing it again today! Talk about bang for your buck.
I also got a crazy idea about Magic: Why not copy the most well known decks of all time and pit one against each other? With some care picking lists you can get a pretty good balance which is always great. I made a thread in BGG about it:

A good idea, I thumbed it.
How do you like Android Netrunner? It should be coming to me at Christmas, my current most anticipated game is my collectors edition of Ogre - which is why I havent bought Netrunner yet. I need to replace my original netrunner, since it is signed by Richard Garfield.
Re: Trading/Collecting/Customizable Card Games!
I started off playing MTG, and I drift in and out of it. I was big into it in grade school and junior high, then my two buddies who also played moved out of state. Then I started again in high school because my roommate loved it, and we got a Magic club started and did a bunch of drafts and some tournaments. In college I stopped since it was a new playgroup I didn't really care for (not bad guys, I just didn't click with them) and played WoW instead. Now that I'm out here in Seattle I tend to only go to prereleases, though recently I've started doing Tuesday night drafts with a group at work, and one of my coworkers built a EDH deck that I play against.
As for other CCGs, I was big into Star Wars CCG until Decipher lost the license. I learned how to play Pokemon and the DBZ game when my brother picked them up, but never purchased cards myself. The two other CCGs I've tried were Animayhem (which was anime themed and imploded when they released a DBZ set that fucked up the balance) and the Aliens vs. Predator CCG.

Best CCG ever. I dumped tons of money into that game. They ruined it bringing the new trilogy stuff into it though and then it went under or they lost the license or whatever. I have never played another card game that held my interest.

The rules for attrition were usually the first to go whenever house rules came up because of how much they fucked up combat math and general deck construction. The other thing that hurt the game was that they added way too much complexity way too fast. It seemed like every other set introduced new card types and every set liked to add in cards that had you build around them to make a specific strategy, like blowing up planets or bounty hunting or training Luke as a Jedi. And some of the strategies required your opponents to play a particular deck type; if your opponent doesn't run Vader you can't confront him. The game had a lot of interesting ideas but they didn't ration it out and they tries a little too hard to recreate specific events from the movies.

Thanks! I think it's too wordy, though

How do you like Android Netrunner?
Given I got it a week ago and I'm already 19 games in, I can say I love it! But I haven't played the original so I can't compare.
And the new OGRE edition looks awesome. Do you have an entire wall to put it?

Awesome, I desperately want it since I loved the original so much.

I bought a house for it actually...We are building a coffee table for the livingroom/library that can hold a game of War of the Ring inside of it, but we might change it out for Ogre. I have minis and everything.
Re: Trading/Collecting/Customizable Card Games!
Growing up I collected plenty... because I really wanted to play, but had no friends so I couldn't. Pokemon, Overpower, Star Wars CCG, MTG. In the last half-year or so I've gotten in to Magic quite heavily... play weekly, but after the first few months it has become a fairly passive hobby. I mean I still play it weekly, but it's minor compared to whatever videogames I'm playing.
If anyone here wants to play on Cockatrice, I'd be down. It's a pretty decent client, though you have to actually know how to play to play.
