We'll I'm assuming that by that meant he can't get a boxed copy of the PC version, not that he doesn't own a PC at all.
I meant that my laptop won't be able to run it. The laptop I have couldn't handle it.

Unless you bought it in 1985, it can handle Doom. Trust me, the game is ancient.

How old is it? Doom is from 1993. My old POS laptop is from 2004/2005 and it can run 3D games released in 2000-2003 that look better than early PS2/GC/Xbox games just fine. It cant run games from 2004/2005 upwards like Half Life 2 naturally.
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box

If you can read this on your computer, you can play Doom in it.

The issue isn't whether the computer CAN handle 1993 Doom or not, it's whether the computer (specifically the operating system) is compatible with it or not.

Technically, my laptop from 2009 can handle probably every PC game made back in the day up until recently, BUT.....PC games don't like to play nice with other operating systems, at least from my experience.

As for Doom, from what I heard, you need a .WAD file that's compatible with your operating system in addition to the .exe file of your original copy of Doom.

BTW my copy of Doom....the SNES one.

There are many ports of the DOOM engine that will play .WAD files just fine, and possibly add enhancements like filtered graphics or more modern control defaults.

I think the version on Steam just uses DOSBox, which is another option.

I find it hard to believe that the OP is posting on the forum and doesn't have one of the computer platforms listed here in the official version list or one of the platforms that the original source code has been ported to here.

Anyway, I swear I watched a decent comparison video of different versions recently, but I can't find it now.
