Playstation: The Official Magazine was the rebranded version of my favorite magazine of the 90's PSM which competed with Official Playstation Magazine...damn shame, hope OXM stays around...no magazine could compete with the greatest of all time, the short lived Official Dreamcast Magazine... :D

ODM was tits! I had every issue but the very first with the idea of buying it off ebay. Kinda lost interest and gave them away to my nephews which now looking back was a huge mistake. They should all be framed and hung in my living room right now lol

It seems most people are content getting their gaming news from the internet or that awful Spike TV video game show. Thing is, though, that gaming magazines were about more than just news, they're entertaining and they're a part of fandom. It's sad to watch the magazine industry slowly shutting down in front of our eyes. At least comic books are still going strong for now *knocks on wood*.

So I flipped through the holiday issue at the magazine section in Wal-Mart today, and it seems as if they had no clue the plug was about to be pulled. It just seems like business as usual and felt nothing like a true final issue, like the recent Nintendo Power final issue did. So I decided not to pick it up. I don't own a PS3 or Vita, and since there was no retrospect or look back on the magazine, Playstation, or games through the years or anything like that, then what's the point?

Sad to see it go out with a whimper. I wonder if the staff were suddenly let go, as well. Around the holidays and everything. That would be terrible. That's how Wizard Magazine, the last surviving mainstream comic book magazine went down.

You mean Issue 1 or Issue 0?...

I just won this one to complete my US collection:

FIRST OFFICIAL SEGA DREAMCAST MAGAZINE - COLLECTABLE

It has the same cover as Issue 1.

PS Shipping was only $5 US. I got him to lower the shipping price. A lot... 8)

I picked up the final issue.

Kinda sad to see this magazine go. I really liked PlayStation magazines. They tended to have a bit more game variety than Nintendo Power.

I expect all print to die eventually. Egon even states that ''print is dead'' that was in 1983. Newspapers are seeing a big decline. The main generations that read newspapers are starting to dwindle away. I expect in the next 25 years the ''paper'' will be a thing of the past too. It may not even take that long.

Print media will never die all the way. Too many people prefer a real book or magazine. It just won't be nearly as big or as important as it once was. Magazines like Time, Reader's Digest, and People won't be going away any time soon.

That's how ODM went out. As I recall, the final issue had a feature on the Dreamcast 2 complete with an interview with Peter Moore on the subject. I'd check to see if my memory is accurate, but the issue is at the bottom of the stack, and I'm lazy. At any rate, the article was in one of the later issues, at least, and there was nothing in the final issue to give the impression that the magazine, or the Dreamcast for that matter, was going down. I remember calling them about three months after that issue was printed, trying to find out where the next issues in my subscription were. Without a straight answer, I eventually came to the realization that they had gone under.

/sigh
