I prefer the original. Also, everybody seems confused about the 2nd being a remake of the first. I think it's the beginning that throws everyone off. The first 10 mins of the 2nd re-tell the events of the first because when the first came out it was small, but the 2nd film got wider distribution. They assumed a lot of folks had missed the first. So really only the first 10 mins are "a remake" to catch people up. The rest of the events are definitely a sequel -- literally the next day after the first movie. This is why it's called Dead By Dawn, it's literally the dawn of the next day.Nemoide wrote:I'm game, I love the original but it's hardly an "untouchable classic." I mean, most folks prefer Evil Dead 2 and that was pretty remake-y.

Hey Noise,
Did the deadites come back after the S-Mart ending, or did Ash use the correct incantation? I'm a little confused as how everything ended as I haven't watched the series in a while.

you're probably confused because there's multiple endings, so it depends which cut you saw.Luke wrote:Hey Noise,

...anyway, you might say I'm a bit fanatic with the series. I even went as far as to hunt-down all the La Casa's (unofficial Itilian sequels, much like all the Italian Zombi films that were released there under the Zombi titles in an attempt to cash in on Dawn of the Dead). The La Casa films include films released in America such as House II, Ghosthouse, Witchery, etc. None of them have anything to do with Evil Dead at all, but I found it amusing to see what Italian audiences were tricked into believing were part of the series proper.
EDIT: in case anyone besides me cares...
La Casa: The Evil Dead (1981)
La Casa 2: The Evil Dead 2 (1987)
La Casa 3: Ghosthouse (1988)
La Casa 4: Witchery (1988)
La Casa 5: Beyond Darkness (1990)
La Casa 6: House II (1987)
La Casa 7: The Horror Show (1989)

Did we watch the same trailer? Yes there's no Ash but let's see...noiseredux wrote:Sounds like a sequel to me. New characters, new plot.
Oldsmobile Delta 88 - check
Kids vacationing at old cabin - check.
Creepy cellar with a Necronomicon that some dumbass reads from - check
Girl from the party turned into a deadite - check
Hand removal - I think that looked like a double check actually
Overly amorous vegetation - check
And as Queso said, if it isn't a remake, why is it called Evil Dead?

Out of this list I've only seen the original two and House II.

sigh. Again. Money. Studios think remakes sell. I imagine they took a script and said "we wanna make Evil Dead 4." Studio said no. They crossed out the 4. Studio said yes.Hobie-wan wrote: And as Queso said, if it isn't a remake, why is it called Evil Dead?
Sure there are similar things in it. But Raimi & Bruce both said that it's not really a remake. It's a completely diff story with diff characters.
Let's not get so hung up on the title.
That evil has always been within the woods. Even before a shack was there (see: Army of Darkness). So new kids go into the woods. The evil gets em. I'm happy.
EDIT: also that car is in every Raimi movie remember? Except Quick & The Dead of course.

Although CABIN IN THE WOODS uses source material from THE EVIL DEAD (deadites are even on the white board), CABIN is it's own movie. This should be in the vein where you take previous material and go haywire with it.
Bruce has been pumping this movie up, a lot. He hasn't said "this ain't your Daddy's tree rape movie", but he's definitely said "this isn't a remake" dozens of times.
Plus most horror movies include:
Creepy Car
Kids on vacation
Creepy book or something to bring back the dead
Loss of a body part
An annoying person with an annoying trait
edit* We've talked more about a movie that no one has seen than we did about THE MASTER.

Re: Evil Dead remake trailer *NSFW*
If you're going to re-use a title from an earlier movie and there are people involved in both movies, people are going to relate them. Full stop. The tree rape and hand removal in Evil Dead are very iconic too. Sure other horror movies have dismemberment, but that's like saying that the beheaded dude on a horse with a flaming pumpkin head in your movie totally isn't 'that guy from Sleepy Hollow'.
But anyway, at least the way it was cut at least, there was no fun camp humor in that trailer. That makes it not much of an Evil Dead movie/remake/sequel/spiritual successor to me.

you think? I don't really find the first Evil Dead humorous.Hobie-wan wrote: But anyway, at least the way it was cut at least, there was no fun camp humor in that trailer. That makes it not much of an Evil Dead movie/remake/sequel/spiritual successor to me.

But again, it's annoying that they're using the title because of this. Admittedly I'm prejudiced against it because it uses the name Evil Dead and I'm disappointed that it doesn't look like it deserves to have it. Just like game sequels that are good games, but because they're different than the rest of the series or the character is written very differently there's a problem.
