I hate spending a lot of money on a single game because I always end up thinking "I could have bought 10 different games for the same price!"

Thankfully, I have an affinity for cheapo stuff - Atari, NES, sports games...

Reading Japanese helps too. I'll never be able to afford, say, Panzer Dragoon Saga, but I picked up Azel: Panzer Dragoon RPG for $30.

Most I ever spent on a game was $150 for Earthbound - the only time I've gone over $100. Sadly, I was purchasing it to replace my previous copy, which had been stolen. Lunar 1 & 2 (for PS1) and Albert Odyssey were pretty pricey too. Everything else I purchased for under $60 (ie: the price of a new game).

I once spent $100 to obtain a NTSC copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga for the Sega Saturn. I only received the discs and the manual, but I was able to create a pretty good replacement case and "complete" it.

Other than that...I think $49.99 (i.e., the price of a new game according to me) is the most that I have ever spent on a single title.

Far as I recall, the only time I've paid more than the original MSRP for a game was $100 for a mint copy of Snatcher. A friend of mine had three CIB copies and was in need of cash. He offered to sell one to me cheap, and let me pick between them (and he threw in a nice copy of Jurassic Park for Sega CD to boot).

I did recently buy the Street Fighter 25th Anniversary thing for $150, and have picked up a few other collector's editions that pushed $100 - but those were at their list prices.

Steel Battalion if you count the cost of the controller, paid about $150 for it.

I've gone over $100 for a few collector's sets; the Hokuto Musou Treasure Box (~$100), and the King's Field Dark Side Box ($120). I don't regret either purchase and the King's Field box is pretty much impossible to find now. (edit: I got that SF Anniversary set too)

Like BoneSnapDeez, if the game is overly expensive and the Japanese version is a lot cheaper (this is very often the case for RPGs, especially older ones), I just buy that. I've only gone over $100 for one game by itself, Radiant Silvergun. I paid $160 for it. This was before it was available on XBLA, but even then I don't think I got a great deal on it or anything. I don't regret that either, as it's gotten hours of play and it's amongst my favorites in the genre. I don't mind paying a lot if it's something I know I'm going to enjoy and I have the spare cash for it, but I do tend to avoid paying over $100 for the purchase of a single item (as in, if it's a console bundle or something, it's different).

I haven't spent triple-digits... yet. The closest I've come was Ibara (PS2) for $90. That felt like a good deal though. That said, I've gotten into Saturn collecting lately which means my future holds some expensive games most likely. :?

if it's any consolation, most of the really expensive Saturn games are all really good games in general.

It's a tie between Earthbound and MGS: HD Collection LE. Paid around $80 for both.

About $120 for Zanac X Zanac. There are a few other games I've spent pricey amounts on, but most of the time if it is an old game that regularly goes for more than $35 I'll just pass or keep my eye out for a deal.

I usually spend over $100+ on most Limited/Collector editions pretty often. As far as retro I think the most I have spent is $125 on Panzer Dragoon Saga for the Sega Saturn.

The most I've ever spent is £84 for Panzer Dragoon Saga. Worth every penny in my opinion. When you consider it's roughly the same price as two brand new games, but it's one of my favourite games, it doesn't seem like a whole lot.
