I wonder which (if any) publisher now holds this license since Ubisoft lost it.Gamerforlife wrote:Twenty years ago we'd be seeing Konami pump out an awesome beat 'em up based on this. Ah, the good old days.

Obviously TMNT is a huge franchise, but Viacom "owns" it. It's nutty as different mediums keep changing hands such as the comic series.noiseredux wrote: I wonder which (if any) publisher now holds this license since Ubisoft lost it.

Says Wikipedia:
"Due to various movie and television deals, the various TMNT films and television series have split between various companies, with Mirage Studios having retained copyright and trademark until October 19, 2009, at which point the rights for the entire TMNT franchise were sold by co-creator Peter Laird to Nickelodeon."
I want to say this would include video game rights, but since they don't explicitly say it, I can't feel totally sure.

Thanks Luke.
Thanks Luke.
Re: Ninja Turtles on Nickelodeon
Well the ownership of TMNT is all over the place. I know a very talented writer who wrote a TMNT mini series this year for IDW and he doesn't know all the copyrights, trademarks, etc. And I'm certain there isn't some Viacom exec who approves everything TMNT related.Key-Glyph wrote:*facepalm*

So although Viacom owns the franchise, anyone can coin in on the Turtles but only for a price. Makes me think about getting a law degree in property license rights.
On topic:
I thought the pilot was decent. It's not really established itself, so I feel it is okay to cut it some slack for a few shortcomings. The animators seemed to dial it in, the writing could use tweaking, and most of all the story and the animation needs to be consistent and have a fluidity to it.
It has lots of potential.

Yes, it was not too bad! The fact that Playmates (the original TMNT toy creator) is back making the toys is pretty neat too. I went out and got weird (as I like to call it) at Toys R Us and bought the action figures and the giant sewer play set. Now I just need to find out how to hide them from my wife!

I watched about half of it. Something about CGI Ninja Turtles doesn't jive well with me.
Re: Ninja Turtles on Nickelodeon
I haven't caught it yet, but I hope it's faithful to the series. Probably the first thing on Nickelodeon that might be able to hold my attention. I still miss all of the nicktoons I grew up with.

Needs to be in 2D.
