Yes! I used to love this game.

HA - yeah I'm not really sure I understand it either. Currently I think it's a game with little instruction, easy to understand / control, pick up and play style with short play sessions.

Notice I said easy to understand and control, not easy difficulty.

Do Cave Story or Cave Shmups count?

I love anything by Halfbrick (Fruit Ninja, Raskulls, Jetpack Joyride, etc.).

I think PopCap Games really has the casual games strategy down to a science. Their games have fun, family friendly graphics and themes, they are easy to understand, they start out as very easy games to play, but they secretly have a huge amount of depth and as you play the game longer and get better at it, you'll begin to see that. You can play a few rounds of one of their games and feel like you had a fun experience, but you can also play the game for hours and it will keep ramping up the difficulty to keep you tested. I am really impressed with them from a game design perspective and have really enjoyed games like Plants VS Zombies, Peggle, Bejeweled, and Zuma's Revenge. I don't really care about having cute and friendly graphics, that's actually a bit of a turn-off for me, and I prefer more story-driven games that deal with mature content (and I don't just mean sex and violence when I say mature). So PopCap games aren't my main flavor, but they are definitely fun and well-designed games that can appeal to the more casual player.
