Ah, OK. Before my time I guess.

More reason to play Dizzy then ;)

What about Another World? I think boss man kicked it from last years list due to Mario 2.
edit: this isn't a nomination. just a "is anyone still interested in playing it?"

Title: Ace Combat 04
Genre: Flight Combat
Ports: PS2
Why we should play it: In 2001 it was a showpiece for what simple flight games could be as well as what the PS2 could do. Until then, nothing was quite like it. The graphics, music and environments are all awesome but the joy is in the flying. It's simple and easy to control but the jets feel real. Each one has its own character. Ace Combat 5 is even better, but not as significant a landmark. This game is super cheap, too.

Title: Elemental Gearbolt
Genre: Light gun/RPG???
Ports: PS1
Why we should play it: A really unique gun game. Its anime, low-key orchestral score and atmospheric fantasy aesthetics set it apart from the pack. Compatible with namco and konami guns, and a regular controller if you're lame.

Title: The Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap
Genre: Zelda
Ports: GBA, 3DS
Why we should play it: ALttP style gameplay, somewhat overlooked.

Title: Journey To Silius
Genre: Run n gun
Ports: NES
Why: Soundtrack, graphics, Sunsoft

TITLE: Paper Mario
GENRE(s) action RPG
PORTS AVAILABLE N64, GCN sequel
WHY SHOULD WE PLAY IT? Upbeat and hilarious, unique battle system
Tsun tsun dere tsun dere tsun tsun~ . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . UPDATED trade list

noiseredux wrote:Really, I think this thread is a good place to brainstorm with everyone active in the TR community chiming in. Maybe folks who were into playing last year's losers have left the forum since? Maybe new members who weren't here last year have even better nominations?
To be able to suggest games for next year's TR sounds great. I know this has been running for many years, so I hope not to

- suggest something that was already played
- suggest something that has a single port (if possible)

I'm sure I'll have some games (that aren't shmups)

Ok, I'd be interested in playing through the Campaign mode in Goldeneye again. Seeing as how easily accessible and cheap the game is, I don't think it's unreasonable. The game's length is definitely beatable in the time-frame, but not long enough to make people lose interest.

Plus not to mention that it was the game that really started my interest in FPS games.

With that said, I tried my best to look through the old calendars and any single-port titles I mention should be fairly easy to get/emulate. I kept my shmup options low, I am much more than that!!!!

Let me say first off, I heartily endorse these games already mentioned for the following reasons --

Puyo Puyo
Its crazy amount of ports, and the fact that it's a damn good puzzler.

MULE
An excellent game that sucked me in right away. Simple strategy game to pick up and play.

Spy Hunter
Fine arcade title that's easy to find on many Midway collections.

Now then -- my first batch of game ideas (hopefully not my last!)

Blaster Master
Platformer/Action
NES
Why? WHY NOT. Classic enough and very surprised it hasn't been done here yet.

Twinkle Star Sprites
Puzzle w/ shmup elements
Neo Geo/DC/PS2/Saturn
It had many Japanese ports, but this game would keep many players interested, and even the shmuppers here.

Tech Romancer
Fighting
Dreamcast
I know it's a single-porter but I loved this game and the Hero Challenge Mode will keep people engaged for a month alone. Should be easy to obtain.

Silent Scope
Rail Shooter
Dreamcast/PS2/Xbox/GBA/Mobile
Enough ports and a real classic, even without the arcade cabinet.

Thunder Force III/Thunder Spirits
Shmup
Genesis/SNES
If I may indulge in a true shmup, why not an easily recognizable one from a great series?

Elevator Action Returns/Elevator Action II
Action/Platformer
PS2/Xbox/PC
Easily attainable on Taito Legends 2, and a worthy update to the original.

Startropics 1 & 2
Adventure
NES/Virtual Console
2 games I feel didn't get a lot of attention from the NES days. Deep exploration and a lot of fun play here.

F-Zero (series)
Racing
SNES/N64/GBA/GC/Wii/Virtual Console
Can be done as the series or even one title. Again, WHY NOT? Heck!

Donkey Kong Country (any in series)
Platformer
SNES/Game Boy/Virtual Console
Deserves a spot because of the good discussion thread we had on it this year about which one was the best. Let's put the series to the test.

Rushing Beat series (Rival Turf/Brawl Brothers/Peace Keepers)
Beat-em-up
SNES
Forgive me again for the single port selection, but outside of Streets of Rage, a solid beat em up trilogy the SNES could call its own.

Dragon Warrior
RPG
NES/GBC
It was my first RPG, and I would only insist on the original, to see how far today's RPGs have evolved from this one.

So yeah. Hope a few of these can be considered.

ok, time for a fighter nomination..

Title: Fatal Fury Special/Garō Densetsu Special
Genre: Down, Forward, High Punch
Ports: Arcade, FM Towns, Game Gear, Neo Geo, Neo Geo CD, Mega-CD, SFC/SNES, TurboGrafx-CD, Playstation 2, Virtual Console, X68000, Xbox Live Arcade...i think that's about it. :P
Why?: The OAV movie was awesome! ..or it's one of the main fighter series for SNK back in the 90s and it's Fatal Fury 1 and 2 combine on steroids. plus, who could resist Mai Shiranui?

Tell me if any of my genre classifications are wrong, i wasnt sure with some. Also, let me know if you prefer this format or whether the old format where you could just see if there was one or more than one vote for each game.

As for some of the recent selections, they may be great games but they're either expensive, rare or limited to one console. We try and play games with lots of ports available, preferably not too pricy ones where possible.
