Phantasy Star 4, SCART to Component, 4 way switch issues!
Re: Phantasy Star 4, SCART to Component, 4 way switch issues
I mean too strong of signal is likely what the switchbox doesn't agree with. Find some PS2 game where the screen goes almost all white. That'll test my theory.

Sigh. I guess all switch boxes will suffer. I just bought this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001TK ... UTF8&psc=1
And I STILL! have the same issue. The issue goes away when I plug the genesis directly to the TV. So it must be overloading the signal on the switch and causing problems
I could try a ps4 port on the ps2 or saturn, but I honestly don't care, since I do all of this work to play the games on the original systems
Maybe I will just throw away all this money I spent on scart converters and just get a gensis with an s-video mod

Hmm actually you've given me another idea. A common factor is these are electronic switch boxes, not mechanical. The effect of that hasn't been ruled out.
Myself I'd look into modding the RGB cable. Then any Genesis should be fixed.

how would i mod the cable?
Re: Phantasy Star 4, SCART to Component, 4 way switch issues
You'd have to find someone who can experiment with it. I don't know the correct signal level.

I've begun a hunt for a genesis 2 with overclock + crystal clear audio + s-video. Figured I would just scratch the scart

Re: Phantasy Star 4, SCART to Component, 4 way switch issues
Okay. I just can't stand all the money I would have wasted if I don't stay with RGB. So if I do the resistor method, where would you suggest I turn...
Re: Phantasy Star 4, SCART to Component, 4 way switch issues
I'm not at home, so I can't help you right now, but I suggest you ask people to open up their SCART cables (the ends are usually unscrewable to expose the innards) and post pics. You can decode the colored stripes on the resistors to figure out what values they have (look up "resistor calculator" on google). Compare the pics to your own cable and decide what to do from there. If yours can be fixed by increasing the resistance value to the same as someone else's then you'd have both a diagram and the correct values. In that case, it's less that $5 parts and finding someone who can do basic soldering.
If it's just the switch box, I do have another of the same mechanical switch box that's on the RB charity auction right now not being used. In fact I feel a little guilty, but I bought it shipped from the UK for less that it's going for now. It's never failed me through 8 different consoles and 3 TVs before I upgraded to higher end tech. PM me if you want it, or even better, bid higher - it's for a good cause.

Re: Phantasy Star 4, SCART to Component, 4 way switch issues
An easy fix (though, it costs money obviously) is to get either a mechanical switcher for cheap somehow like Anapan above suggests, or buy a component switcher on eBay from either Extron or Kramer, both high-end top-of-the-line industry-standard and all that A/V companies.
such as this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Kramer-VS-2053- ... 43bbeff3eb
I'm not guaranteeing it's going to fix your problem, but if either a mechanical switch box or one from Extron/Kramer doesn't do it then nothing will.
Good luck.
edit: if you go with the Kramer or Extron don't forget you'll need BNC male to RCA female adapters to go along with it.
