2005 wasn't part of the current generation. 360 was released in November/December 05. And how many significant games were released during that 6 week perioid? I cant think of any. I'd say that this current generation properly started during very late 2006 (Wii and PS3 were released in November/December of 06). It wasn't untill 2007 before we got games like Halo 3, Uncharted, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, The Orange Box and Bioshock.

I do agree though that there's been a lot of change happening in games and in the industry in general between late Xbox&Gamecube/early Xbox 360-era and current era (mostly bad imo)
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box

I consider the current generation to have started in '05 because the 360 came out that year, and games designed with the PC in mind no longer ran on the PS2/GCN/oXbox. It didn't get into full swing until '07, but everything takes time to rev up except the Dreamcast. However, I would say that '05 and '06 were also part of the previous gen. It's possible to have two generations existing at the same time, although that never lasts for long.

I'm not seeing all that big of a difference in those screenshots.

I'm honestly not sure what else people want out of a new machine - the new games for all the major franchises look great, as far as I'm concerned, they are only lacking somewhat in the gameplay department (which is not a graphical flaw, but a design flaw). Besides all that, look at the PS2! Games are STILL being made for the PS2. I say the best if yet to come for the current generation, and I don't mind waiting a few years for the next one.
Well said.
This has been my thought ever since hearing about Microsoft and Sony's intentions to bring out new consoles in the next year or so. I can understand Nintendo's decision to catch up to the technology of 2006, but I don't really see a new generation of consoles giving us a quality of game much different from what we're seeing now.

Actually, the only thing left coming out for the PS2 is a reprint of Psychonauts.

Edit: It's not a reprint, it's being released on PSN. My bad. The PS2 is completely done in North America.
"As of 2012, over 12 years after its initial release, new games continue to be developed and sold. The latest game is MLB 2K12, released in March 2012 in North America only;[10] FIFA 13 and PES 2013 are also due to be released for the system in September 2012."

That's per Wikipedia. So, 12 years after the PS2 was released, games are still being made. We've had this generation for what, 7 years? I don't think it's a stretch to get a couple more out of it.
To say games are still coming out for the PS2 is quite a stretch.
It's like saying, games are still being made for your 12 year old system so you don't need to buy a new one.
If you want to play anything new you do need to upgrade.

And yes, this gen has gone on long enough. Consoles are way too far behind PCs and it's really starting to show.
I think we need to have Nintendo-OS, Sony-OS and MS-OS made by those companies and just install them on a PC that's upgradable and uses each companies controller or whatever. That idea has flaws I know and besides that will never happen.
 (FC, AVFC, NES, SFC x2, SNES, N64, GC x2, Wii x2)*(G&W x7, GB, GBpocket, GBASP, DS-L x2)
(GEN, SS x3, DC x3)*(PCE-Duo)*(Xbox:500GB)*(NGCDZ, NGPC)*(PS1, PStwo, PS3:160GB, PSP.3K)

In that case you might want to get your eyes checked out.

Knew that was coming.
Windows gets bogged down with extraneous crap even from a fresh install. If there was a "console" OS, it should/would be streamlined like how they are on a console so that the only factor in a PC-based "console" would be how powerful you chose to make your console/PC for what level of prettiness you want/game maker gives as a requirement. It console/PC should only be for games, not word processing etc.
