The name looks like it sounds like, Oh yeah... dat right?
I can't see who this is for. Console gamers who are not smart enough to deal with a PC but want their PC ports to look better than the PS360 versions?

dust_hound wrote:JT's got a pretty good point here- the Ouya seems to be trying to cater to the, let's face it, minority market of those who want to tinker with their kit and get the most out of it using their own skills, yet it's also trying to position itself as a kind of go-to point for games, and have a mass-market appeal. Both of those things are kind of covered already by PC. Games on your tv? My tv already has VGA- and HDMI- inputs, so i can already plug most PCs, or macs for that matter, and even my netbook, into it.
I see your point but my PC is a piece of (Mario coin sound). I still don't know if its gonna be better then the Durango or the Orbis. Might consider buying also because the only 7th generation console I have is a Wii.

Ya, that's a fair point, definitely. I guess that the 100 you spend on the Ouya wouldn't really go that far for upgrading a PC.

Ouya=android games. Android games games are mostly simple 2D games that any old POS can run (like Facebook/flash games) and the actual 3D games that exist on it look about the same as PC games released in 2000-2004. It's Halo/Counter Strike Source level stuff at tops, not top of the line, or even average 2010-2012 PC graphics.
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box

Another way to look at it is that the Ouya is better hardware than a Wii, but not on the level of a 360.
A lot of the point isn't to look at what the thing can possibly run, but to make a defined console platform that's more open than the ones we currently have, but still has the game console user experience.
Sure, a PC, or even other Android devices might be more powerful, but that's rarely ever been the point of a console. Developers can focus on a single hardware configuration, and users get a streamlined experience.
If it was purely about hardware specs, there'd be no point in consoles existing. Any of them. Ever.
Re: Thoughts On the Ouya?
The problem is this thing doesn't have mindshare with the average consumer, nor do they have the advertising budget to push it hard like how Sony and Microsoft did when they wanted to get into the game. So you have an underpowered console that no one outside of random techies knows about.

Re: Thoughts On the Ouya?
I got my Ouya coming. Whether it's a hit or miss remains to be seen, but I'm hoping to see the backroom coders make some cool stuff, games that simply couldn't be done in today's "AAA titles or bust" -market.
Also, some Android games are actually interesting, only thing keeping them from being legitimate games in my mind are the controls. Or the lack of it, to be more precise. I want to get Ouya ports of the good ones. R-Type, the Alphalt racing games...there's gonna be that Raiden collection soon, that would be good.

Re: Thoughts On the Ouya?
My thing about it is that it is a self contained system. Maybe I just get unlucky, but I usually have to spend a little bit of time optimizing my PC games to get it to run the way I want.
In extreme circumstances, I'll have to download a patch or change something in some config file to get it to work correctly. That, in my opinion, is a HUGE downside of gaming on pcs (which I still do).
But if you are making games for Ouya, anyone will be able to download them and every game will work with your controller because it is standardized.
Anyway, I plan on getting one. It's only 99 bucks and has a ton of potential. Plus, people have already made tons of emulators for Android, so at the very least I can see it being a really solid emulation machine.
