The problem is that video game news is a very rapid business; waiting for a monthly magazine doesn't seem worthwhile to people when you can get the same information and similar interviews through online sources. Additionally, people who play video games are drawn to internet news sources, while other magazine niches cater to an older and less tech-savvy crowd.

That sucks, because lately, the quality of the magazine has been getting a whole lot better.

I already know and understand all of that, and it's been their argument for years, but it never made sense to eliminate all the things print can do that online can't ... and embrace the things that both do well.

They did sort of move away from having a heavy emphasis on reviews and news to more ... features related to current projects, which is good ... but the older Nintendo Power mag did this without breaking a sweat. There was a lot in those magazines that doesn't get done online now, and likely never will ... because "Game journalism" has turned into non-sense blog posts about things that may not even be true.

What CAN print do that online can't, aside from be readable when you forget to pay your cable bill? The biggest thing I can think of is having large maps and walkthroughs is more convenient in print form, but even that is going away with the advent of the tablet device. And games quickly got complex enough that you needed far more than the 4-8 pages a magazine is willing to devote to the game to be a useful reference, as opposed to a starting point to whet your appetite.

I think it was inevitable that a print-based magazine was going to bite the dust. It should have become a free-to-read supported-by-advertising website years ago. Who buys magazines anymore, besides doctor's offices? RIP Nintendo Power. It will soon be possible to own a complete NP set.

A coincidence that I just finished reading two issues of NP before finding this thread. I read through #6 and #65.

I thought about re-subscribing, but then realized i dont have a 3DS and dont plan on buying a Wii U, my best times with the Magazine were during the 90's and early 00's.

RIP

I have issues 30 something through 200? with a few through the 200's i bought at a store.
