Old Sega used to do that, that's how we got the SCD and 32X.
But seriously though, as nice as Shenmue 3 would be I can't help but feel it would be a disappointment. It wouldn't be the same. It's hard to pick up a series that's been dead for years and years and revive it at the same level of quality as before. Max Payne 3 is an exception, not the rule.

And many would argue that Max Payne 3 still isn't an exception to that rule.

SCD & 32X? Maybe... I've read that was mainly due to heads of SoJ and SoA clashing. Anyway~
Old Sega financed Shenmue but unless 3 was built on a preexisting engine, not a licensed one ($$$), I can't see them making a new Shenmue, even if a group inside Sega wants Yu Suzuki to make it. Maybe using the Yakuza engine but, meh dunno~

That's the smartest thing anyone has said on the subject. I agree entirely

How could it be a disappointing when the same director and writter would be working on it?
I love all my fellow forum members but serious you can be overly cynical sometimes. Dreams do come true and This can happened and be great!

As a massive Shenmue fan, I've accepted that Sega has had to do what it could to survive and moved on. Although Shenmue 1 & 2 still both give me goosebumps and fill me with nostalgia every time I boot them up and my Dreamcast sounds like it is cutting the discs to pieces as it strains to play the games, I feel that the current market is even harder for a game like this to succeed. The two options I think could help the series continue (and succeed) would be:
Bethesda take on the license from Sega. They have done well from the current generation of titles with Oblivion, Skyrim and Fallout 3 series, and with Fallout being the American themed one, Skyrim being the old European themed one, they could turn their hands to a Japanese themed RPG. Perhaps a character that you create meets Ryo Hazuki in a bar one evening, he is drinking heavily and unshaven, still thinking about his father. He gets into a fight with someone dressed like Lan Di and your character steps in and your role is to track down Lan Di in a crime-ridden Tokyo.
This is a missed opportunity but Nintendo could have used a license such as Shenmue to launch the Wii U. They have talked about trying to get back the hardcore gamer and gamers didn't come much more hardcore than Dreamcast owners. The Wii U controller had limitless ideas for minigames. You could use it to place crates, twist it for arm wrestles, the touch screen for darts, the Virtual Console ports used in-game for an Arcade. SO many ideas. Nintendo have the money and the fanbase to get a series like this to the masses.

Keep on dreaming. IMO, it won't happen any time soon. I enjoyed the first one, despite how long-winded it felt. When I went to try the second one, I lost interest quickly. I don't think it's worth it to Sega to make another sequel, and Nights (from what I hear) is proof of that. I'll be sure to give that a shot soon, though.

What you bored od the second one?! That game was fantastic. I loved the first one and the second improved on it in so many ways. The graphics were outstanding and the whole game was rich and full and vibrant.
some will claim that the xbox version up better and this makes me laugh! The dreamcast version with the 640/480 though vga was outstanding and made great use of the vmu not to mention it was an showcase for the system.
I feel it's almost insulting to play on anyother system then the dreamcast but that;s just my opinion. Im sure others will comment on this

The first was great and if you did not play the second all the way you are missing out bigtime! As for journey into dreams? Fist thing is you can't udge a whole company by one game that's way unfair like I have said before they have been making outstanding game's and Pso2 which is a sequel is looking to be just as good and even maby better then the first although that game will always be historical.
Also the second nights no was not as good as nights into dreams with christmas nights it infact had alot of issues such as controls and such but it was not by anymeans a horrible game. IT's had some really fun aspects to it and made reala shine

I just want to see the ending of the series. I don't care if it's by movie, book, game, whatever. I'm tired of cliffhangers.
