DANG, this thing looks like it's on course to break a record at Kickstarter!
It doesn't really look like it's for me, but I'm interested to see how it'll turn out.

Yeah, they use a lot of disgruntled and retro gamer buzzwords but I don't know how good it will be in reality. Sounds decent in theory, but looks like an emulator/obscure indy game machine with a knock off 360 controller.

Anyone figure this one out yet?How do you pronounce OUYA, anyway?
OOO-yah. Apparently it doesn't have the most pleasant meaning in Swahili.

It's also the most expensive platform to own and upkeep. This, if it gets true support, will be the cheaper alternative to what has already been proven to be the ultimate open platform.MrPopo wrote:You know there's already an open platform people can make games for. It's called a PC.
If only it gets support...

I think it'd be halfway supported either way. My assumption is that a lot of this is a standardized hardware spec and front end for Android. There are already cheap Android PCs, and have already been Android "consoles" in form of small tablets with control pads built in (or the other one that's been mentioned here, the EVO 2 ). While not all apps might be integrated the same, I think it'll run Android software in general, if not out the box, it'll be hacked to allow for it.brandman wrote: It's also the most expensive platform to own and upkeep. At $99, it's not a bad deal for the included hardware either way (maybe by March 2013 it will be, but right now it's not).

This has been actively disproven several times in this forum.brandman wrote:It's also the most expensive platform to own and upkeep.

Im psyched. Ive said i wanted a new 16 bit game system, and while this technically isnt that, it could be a new source for retro style games. I already know that Clash Force and Polyroll will be showing up on it.

I am also a backer of this project. Super excited for March 2013 now.
Even if it is a flop, it would be great to sit on my shelf.

Depends on the setup honestly, and your architecture, and your purchasing frequencies, and just how top of the line you want it to be. It can be cheaper than consoles, but honestly, someone want's a PC that an play games better than consoles, which require parts better than consoles, and different games come out that require more and more power.General_Norris wrote:This has been actively disproven several times in this forum.brandman wrote:It's also the most expensive platform to own and upkeep.
TL;DR: it can be the cheapest but you get what you pay for, and cheap is usually sub par to consoles, which is not the point of pc gaming.
