Wouldnt it be easier to hack a Dterminal adapter to VGA?

Personally, I just bought Wii component cables and run my GC games on it in Progressive Scan mode. I cheaped out, but I dont like spending $100ish on cables (that are not over 100 feet long or are 3g SDI).

I saw a not a Gamecube but a Wii D Terminal cable for five bucks and was debating this. I think the Sync on Green might be an issue.

~200 480p games out of ~450 released games? (kind of quick counted)
So like almost half of them support 480p. Surprising, I thought it was way more than that.
It should be possible to make the cable do both Component and VGA, perhaps even with a switch.
Holy crap, I didn't realise that many games supported 480p, that's awesome! I have an extra ps2 with a HDD in it that I use for the handful of games that support 480p, hooked to a nice 21" CRT that supports sync-on-green. The games that run on it look amazing. Kinda wish I hadn't sold my gamecube component cable now, but it contributed to buying my sega NAOMI, so I can't complain.

Need FreeMCboot? I'll install it on your PS2 Memory Card for free if you cover postage both ways.

From my experience, pretty much all of the good/popular games supported progressive scan. The only ones that didn't that I can think of was Luigi Mansion and Mario Party 4. The wiki lists MP4 as 480p but I think that's wrong.

Are there any other **good** games that didn't support 480p?

If you look at the back cover of Mario Party 4, it doesn't list Progressive Scan

I remember the game having a grainy look.

I'm definitely looking for one of these cables! It's really too bad they're so expensive... :x Every Gamestop I checked didn't have any either.

I've been seeing a lot of examples on how it's sharper than the Wii's component so that would be really interesting to check out first hand!

Related side question: I got a Game Boy Player recently and it appears the filter for Soft, Normal, and Sharp don't even work at all with S-video cables; they're all the same "Soft" setting! I heard this can be FPS-related instead of video filtering-related but at the end of the day the Gamecube adds a softening bilinear filtering effect that looks terrible. I read that using the component cable allows the filter to be turned off for unaltered pixels, though I'd like to use an interlaced mode for it so I can turn off a scanline in the TV service menu to get a 240p effect with my standard definition TV... doesn't even matter in the end though if a softening filter is used. Does anyone know if the Game Boy Player HAS to be set to progressive with the component cables for this to work?

So basically its either eBay, GameStop, or bust?

Just started looking around for them myself. No way they cost as much as a rare sealed game these days ($100 and up!) Geez.

That's not a perfect indicator. Several games don't list it there. Super Smash Bros Melee, Super Monkey Ball 2, Sonic Adventure 2 Battle...

Wario Ware is probably the one you're thinking of without 480p. Not Mario Party.

I've experimented with nonbranded RGB cables - they are awful. i had a chance to buy an original cable and wow! I am curious if is there any difference between RGB and component? Can someone compare? Colors and resolution looks perfect and sharp without any blur or fuzziness and i don't think component would be an upgrade.
The only thing i noticed in Soul Calibur 2 in Widescreen mode the screen is not that wide. On a 80 cm LCD TV there are 2 black bars at the sides (not that bad it's like 2 cm each). It may be the difference?

Swiss can apparently force some games to run at 480p. I haven't got the cords to test it out though.

EDIT: If someone here has the time to test games and the equipment for it, I'm sure GC forever would appreciate having their NTSC compatibility list expanded.

You need hacked or NTSC game versions. Component only makes a difference that way. 480p was individually removed from each specific title by PAL game developers, rather tedious job that had little to no benefit for users.
