With a cheap crappy remote, yes. A good remote (e.g, Harmony 700, Harmony One) will have no trouble with it.

* Why CRT is superior to LCD for retro gaming?
-For some reason manufacturers have neglected scaling in modern HDTVs. The image quality of lower resolutions in HDTVs is horrible. If someone were to combine something like the FrameMeister upscan converter into the HDTV itself I would never look back to CRT. However the method that exists now is costly. Also it is a pain to hook up everything to run through upscan converters due to their lack of imputs. Many people often make custom converters and plugs to hook everything up. Another factor with HDTVs is response time. For many games having little to no input lag is a must.

* What do you look for in a CRT monitor/TV for gaming?
-When I was looking for a CRT I wanted a tri-sync (multiple resolutions) monitor because I use the tv for mame(15khz) on a pc, multiple consoles ranging from SNES(240p) to PS2(480i), as well as for watching movies on the pc. I pretty much have shunned HD completely. I don't really see the need for a giant tv in my apartment. Most of the content I get online is in SD format which would look horrible on the HDTV but looks great on my CRT.

* How difficult is it to find a good gaming CRT these days?
-Not too hard. If you are looking for something specific it can be hard. If you have a few different models which can meet your needs then it will be much easier.

* Are you making plans for the day when CRTs will be impossible to find/hard to repair? Hoarding TVs, perhaps?
-This is something that has been bothering me. I don't see HDTVs evolving with respect to scaling and/or handling lower resolutions any better. I currently have an NEC XM29 Plus which is great for almost everything I have. However it is limited in its inputs so systems like the PS2 for example are a bit of a pain. For this reason I will probably try to find a Sony Trinitron/Wega so I can have something that has more standard inputs. So having two CRT monitors is my ideal setup.

* Have you tried emulators with CRT filters? Do they work well enough for you?
-I don't really like the CRT filters in emulators. However the quality of scanlines has really picked up lately. Some good examples of scanlines available for console emulators can be found here. In Mame their scanline emulation is called HLSL and is pretty good. An example can be found towards the bottom of the page here. However scanlines and emulators are more of a workaround than a solution because they still have a long ways to go. You should have an easy to use option to play original systems on today's hardware.

As a side thought it would be nice to see alternative HDTV technologies like SED and/or FED hit the market. These may be able to provide a better solution to handling lower resolutions and reducing response times than what is currently offered.
