It would have been useful, since those bricks take the space of 2 plugs each.

Haven't tried it myself, but from what I understand Tripp-Lite's pretty reliable stuff. I'm planning to get one sooner or later.

I may not need 24 outlets now, but I might one day! Plus that thing's so huge it's outright comical.

Or just do it the retro right way and find a Sega power strip

I am a huge Sega nut and still can't justify tracking one down. I guess if I found it for $10 or something I would buy it, but that would be my limit and probably never happen.

Just to anyone that does find or track one of the Sega strips down, the surge protection will be no good any more so it will just be a multi-socket.

At my workplace we have strips just like that mounted inside of metal laptop cases, they're used to charge 15+ laptops at once. I think most people who have these strips at home use them for power tools.

Short answer, the MOV which protects stuff in a basic power strip, wears out. Even if you never have a major spike, the little ups and downs that happen without you noticing will wear them out after a few years.
