BurningDoom wrote: So I just got this game in the mail today, and I went to test it and dang! What a fan-freaking-tastic game! I was pleasantly surprised. The only Thunder Force game I had played previous was a demo of Thunder Force V on PS1 (which was fun as hell, and HIGH on my wantlist). I was expecting the same side-scrolling shoot-em up formula (albeit with some twists here and there) that Thunder Force V had. Instead I find a free-roaming shoot-em up. What an awesome concept! Why don't other games use this formula? The soundtrack sounds nice, at least so far it does. It doesn't sound "tingy" or use the same sounds as a lot of the Genesis games do. And it's dirt cheap to boot!

I can tell this gonna be one of my favorites. I only played it for a few minutes, but I'm sure I'll have a blast when I actually set aside some time for some real gaming time.

My only question about it is: What's with those stupid walls? How do you get past them? The only thing I could figure was to just run through it and sacrifice a ship in the process, but I know that can't be right. What am I supposed to do to get past them?
WELCOME TO HEAVEN

As others have said... if you are really liking Thunder Force II, then III and IV are going to make you have multiple orgasms. Have you tried Gate of Thunder on the Turboduo? That is also going to blow you away.

As has been said, just shoot every thing you see on the walls. I believe you need to open up the left wall in the first section in level 1 if you haven't done that.

I'm the happy owner of all 5 (not counting the very obscure first game) Thunder Force games. My order of preference:

-Thunder Force IV (Lightening Force)
-Thunder Force III
-Thunder Force VI
-Thunder Force V
-Thunder Force II

Although in some ways I prefer TFII over VI and V.

I forgot to mention, that the original Sharp X68000 version of TFII looks pretty different from the Genesis release. Most importantly the overhead stages look a lot more tolerable with the camera being zoomed out a bit more. Check it out on youtube at least sometime, I definitely want to play it eventually.

Gates of Thunder is a great recommendation Breetai, especially musically. I think the Soldier Blade trilogy would be good ones to hit up too, those even feel like games Technosoft could have made.

I haven't really dug into TFV that much, didn't really pull me in and graphically I just wasn't loving it. But TFVI looks a lot more appealing at a glance, I still need to get that one someday.

The Soldier series and TF series are pertty different IMO. Both are amazing though. I prefer the Soldier series, just by a bit.

Gate of Thunder does feel like it could almost be part of the series.

I was just completely confusing the two in my mind when you mentioned it, so I was kind of wondering where the comparison was coming from since Lords of Thunder is pretty different, lol.

I checked out Lords of Thunder on Wii Virtual Console, and it's now one of my all-time favorite shoot-em ups. Such style, and such a freaking kick-ass soundtrack. But dang can it be unforgiving at times.

Never even heard of it. Guess I'll have to check it out. Is it on Wii Virtual Console? Because by TG-16 died a little bit back, thanks to my cat, believe it or not.

That's Gate of Thunder that I posted a picture of above. Reminds you of Thunder Force III, doesn't it? Believe it or not, it's BETTER.

It was a pack-in for the Turboduo (yes, they actually used a shoot 'em up as a pack in!), and it is on the Wii VC. I remember that Gamepro gave it a perfect score (I think it was), back in the day. EGM game it editor's choice for the year in 1992. It is really THAT good.
