The GB Micro came with a special tool to open the faceplates. You can't get them off without it.

Sure you can. I did it several times before getting my hands on the official tool. It just presses in two holes on the side. You can do this with pens, pins, etc.

I believe he was referring to getting access under the buttons to clean the contacts.

I really want one but can never find one for a good price. I have never found one for under 50. If I ever come across one for 30 or under I will snag it in a sec!

Lol, no I never went out of my way to get them, but around 2004-2005 all the EBGames stores were liquidating their stock of GB Micros so I bought the last of the stores' stock for ~$25 a piece IIRC. I sold them to friends with kids as christmas presents and stuff along with some link cables and flash carts. There's a lot of great 2 player games that can keep kids quiet in the back seat on road trips.

Seen some faceplates on ebay from the UK go for a decent amount recently

this one for example, went for $30 US + shipping

dont understand why there are no chinese knockoff faceplates anywhere to buy.

Definitely get yourself a tri-wing. They are only a few dollars.

You can also open other Nintendo handhelds with it.

When you open your system, just clean the plastic parts with a damp cloth (including the buttons of course). Let it dry, then put it back together. Your sticky button should be as good as new.

I have the Famicom version with an EX Flash IV. They work quite well together. I also have this kick ass hard shell case made by dreamgear. Completely holds it tight once clasped, putting no pressure on any buttons when jostled around a bag/pocket.

This is currently my favorite handheld.

I have one of those dreamgear cases - indeed it appears to work well, and clasps tight. I ordered it because of a thread molotovwars started about using a GBM as a keychain. It has a lanyard hole so it would make a Micro into a keychain.

edit: I sent the case to molotovwars
