That's pretty much how I feel about all the Gradius games.

Expect for part 1. Which I beat once. By cheating.

My copy came last night...not doing great, and not really enjoying it :/

78,300 - mjmjr25 - PS2

Once I figure out the best powerups and learn a few tricks i'm sure the score will improve, but it just isn't clicking (enjoyment-wise) right now.

It was sorta cool though, my daughter was watching me play last night and she said, "So, this is sorta like Parodius then, but boring, right dad?"

Neat that she was able to identify the correlation of the Gradius/Parodius games w/o me saying anything.

I also don't fine the game all that enjoyable. But I do plan to spend at least some time with it to get some kind of score up here.

Wow, I'm the only one here that likes Gradius?

It goes full-circle. Once you play enough Cave/Raizing/Psikyo, I think (hope) you guys will come back and enjoy some of the more challenging older shooters.

Its good training too. Memorizing is how you get good at newer shooters, but you don't HAVE to do it to just get further. You can bomb/cheese your way through.

Gradius and R-type make SURE you know your shit, or you can't get anywhere.

Maybe instead of Gra-type style shooters, we should play some Toaplan instead?

Hey hey, I love the Gradius series. Been playing since I got it for my Famicom back in 1986!

You have me beat Hash, I didnt discover Gradius until happening across the snes port of the third game. Being ignorant of how hard it mustve been to port such a game to the snes, I recall getting highly irritated at the massive sprite flickering (once at full power).

Now that I've played 3 on the ps2, I must say they had quite the job attempting to port such a fast-moving, colorful game.

@Mike: So, what Toaplan board are we gonna attempt to get? Toaplan is missing from my pcb line up, and that is not cool.

I had V-V (Grindstormer) on the brain after thinking I was gonna snipe this one:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/190672606147?ss ... 500wt_1182
Had a snipe of $153 lined up, but...apparently wasn't enough.

I've been eyeing Tatsujinou (Truxton II) also, but that game is tough as balls and pcb is htf as well.

Batsugun is prob the easiest board to find, but also one of the priciest.

Hmmm, I guess factoring in gameplay, availability, and price - how does Out Zone sound?

I have a thing with Batsugun. Like, I'd rather wipe my ass with a conch then play it kinda thing.

I have never played a Toa pcb, nor even seen footage of Tatsujin ou, out zone, dogyuun(?), as well as many others I'm sure.

If its vert and toaplan Ill like it though. What's it run?
