I have the codec "incoming call" from Metal Gear Solid as my ringtone for work.

It's great because of the subtleness of it. To most it just sounds like a cell phone "ring" sample, but ones that get it are like "man, that's awesome!"

That's what I'm talking about!

Lol the metal gear incoming call sound? That sure takes me back about 8 years. It seemed like everyone at work used to have that lol.

not a ring tone, but I have wanted to set my phone's alarm tone to be the Sonic 1/2/3 drowning music.

I could never find a proper game tone that wasn't too dorky.

Used to have the mega man X slice sound for text message tone till a co-worker told me to change it. It is currently the sonic mark sound effect, when he gets the check point/ half way point. Very tempted to use Ken's theme from street fighter for the ring tone.

I hear a lot of Mario Bros getting the mushroom message tones. If you're looking for some fun sounds look up Mario Paint.

My ringtone isn't a game but anime, Prince of Tennis USA theme. Rockin' guitar riff no one would know is from anime.

for a long time my text message notification sound was the mario coin sound. Almost everyone recognized that lol

Now it's the rupee sound from LttP to fit my current theme. Not quite as universally recognized I would say..

I've been using the MGS codec sound for years now. The first time it rang at work it startled a few artist (ring starts off with the "!" sound followed by codec). I then got some laughs when I answered in Snake's voice, "this is Snake, Colonel can you hear me?". My wife was like "huh, who?".

for txt I use the Neo Geo boot up.

... calendar alerts, I went with the "SEGA!" from the Genny Sonic 1 boot up.

Yes, total VG geek sounds. My ringtone is non-game related...but movie, Summer by Joe Hisaishi from Kikujiro.
