Man, there used to be a company out there called ReplayTV. They were TiVo's main competitor for a year or so, and they didn't have a monthly fee. They even had commercial skip sensors (worked 99% of the time for us). Only problem was that they weren't HD compatible. They were only standard def. Maybe see if they're still around?BoringSupreez wrote:Well, I have more income than I expected I'd be getting, so I went with the America's Top 200 from Dish Network. So now I've got a new question: do any of you know of a good DVR that doesn't cost multiple hundreds of dollars and doesn't have a subscription fee like Tivo? I didn't want to rent one from the satellite company, because they wanted a $100 activation fee in addition to $6 per month. I'd much rather own mine.
Also, this could go against your 'multiple hundreds' rule, but you could buy a cheaper computer from ebay, or craigslist, etc. And put a Tuner card in there, then plug your dish cable into that and use it to DVR shows with Media Center.
