Opened my SNES Starfox to clean, what is this??

Ya I had no idea! I need to go find something better to clean it with though, I still can't get the damn thing to work.

Out of 70 games I just can't get this one, Battletoads or Final Fight to work. Starfox and Final Fight aren't a big deal, but blowing another $20 on Battletoads kinda sucks.

Try putting your cleaning product on a old toothbrush and scrub the game pins then dry with q tip.

When I opened my copy of Battletoads in Battlemaniacs(won't work as well), the board almost looked a little sticky. Does anyone have suggestions for cleaning the entire PCB? I was using a qtip with alcohol for that part as well but little cotton hairs seemed like they started sticking to the soldered bits or anything a bit sharp so I stopped using that. My best guess is that this cart has had pop/juice spilled on it at some point, even though the outside looks really clean.

I've looked at a ton of cleaning videos and it seems like everyone gets by with just cleaning the contacts.

cleaning product on white cotton t-shirt should work.

Trying leaving the contacts a tiny bit wet when you clean them with alcohol and insert and remove the game from your snes a couple of times, then power it on and see if it'll work then. Also make sure there aren't any tiny fibers at all from the q-tip on the contacts. The slightest bit of fuzz can keep it from wanting to work.

I know that's kind of common sense stuff but, never hurts to try. Hopefully you can get them to work without having to buy extra copies.

The frontside looks exactly like yours, but sadly there is no back view. The resistor looks a little suspect to me too.

Got there on a Google search. Completely missed all the pictures in that first linked post. FAIL.

At least we know it's legit, just appears to be very tough to get going even after a repeated cleaning. I never had such an issue with dirt in SNES games as much as I have with NES cartridges.
