Without having played it, and looking at video and reading impressions, it seems like the project rainfall has created a hype machine for it. Because of the developer pedigree and outcries over it being denied to the US, I think it may be a bit overrated. Not saying it isn't a good game, but doesn't necessarily seem much better or revolutionary than many other recent jrpgs... not complaining though, I like getting jrpg console releases...
Maybe my stance will change once I play it, but I think I have a good idea of the game as it is...

I've been having a blast with it, but I wouldn't say there is anything particularly next-gen about it. It reminds me a little bit of a lot of other games.. a little Rogue Galaxy, a little Final Fantasy XII, ..it's good stuff!

The thing that I really enjoy about the game is that it keeps giving me subtle flashbacks to 16-bit classics like Secret of Mana or Chrono Trigger, despite it being in a totally different graphical styling. The re-generative health between battles, the affinity system, the combat system, certain plot choices, and the many ways the game forces you to get creative with the way you approach enemies are all very refreshing.
The title screen is stunning, and the music provides a true sense of exploration. The game retains all the charms of the genre's better days, with some convenient innovations, and puts them on a console that can deliver the adventure in a more realistic fashion than its predecessors. The world of Xenoblade feels very much-so alive.
At least that's why I like it, but I'll be the first to admit I'm not too familiar with current-gen JRPGS.

I'll try it eventually, I promise. I've had my PS3 since XMAS, and still haven't picked up any games yet. Nothing against that game personally. Even so, Catherine comes first.

Finally got this in a the mail! With the artbook...... I didn't even know I was getting an artbook.
So all the hype has made me decide that I need to play this sooner or later. Thus, Xenoblade moves up in the queue and I'll begin the game as soon as I finish Lunar Legend.

I gave it a whirl but I couldn't get into it. Wasn't really the fault of the game though, For some reason I just can't get into jrpgs anymore. It did have a great soundtrack. I'm glad it was released here and everyone is getting a chance to play it.
