SNES Game Genie Problem
Re: SNES Game Genie Problem
I say just try and score a model 1 on the cheap. Sell your mini, or keep it in the closet as a spare. You have the power adapter, AV hookups and controllers already so you can afford to get a bare console. Hunt eBay, you can find one for cheap. I've gotten a couple of great looking model 1s off eBay for decent prices ($20-35). The model 1 is just all around better, including being able to output S-Video (Nintendo forgot to hook up the S-Video output on the mini).

I prefer the original model (I got the Mini because at the time I was buying, I found one $10 cheaper than the cheapest original I could find), but if I can get a clone cheaper just for Game Genie stuff, I'd settle for that. It's all about what I can get cheapest, lol.

To hell with the clones, you'll have worse compatibility!ElkinFencer10 wrote:I prefer the original model (I got the Mini because at the time I was buying, I found one $10 cheaper than the cheapest original I could find), but if I can get a clone cheaper just for Game Genie stuff, I'd settle for that. Like I said, just hunt for a bare (no hookups) SNES console on eBay, you'll find one cheap enough. I've found some with hookups (and occasionally games and extra controllers) for pretty cheap before. You can always sell your mini afterward to get some of the cost back, if not all.

I've got everything to test out what you're talking about here.
I'll do some testing with a SNES mini and a yobo system.
Let me make sure I understand the issue, the GG won't work on the snes mini even on non-fx chip games? right?
Also how are you determining the different versions on the game genies? I have two but I don't see anything on them that refer to different versions. Also, any games in particular you want me to test on?

Re: SNES Game Genie Problem
From what I've read, Version 1 has the hypens in the code lines already visible before entering any codes whereas on Version 2, a hypen doesn't appear until you've entered the first four characters of the code. I don't know 100% if that's true, but I've read that on several different forums, so I've been working under the assumption that it's true.Mechblue wrote:I've got everything to test out what you're talking about here.

From what I've read and from my experience, all of the games I've tried let me enter codes and load no problem when I press Start, but none of the codes work. I have tried one Super FX chip game (Doom), and I've tried Super Mario All Stars and TMNT IV.
I appreciate your investigating this for me.

Re: SNES Game Genie Problem
alright, reporting my findings.
I must have the version 2 as the dashes don't show up till the first four symbols are entered.
On the mini-snes the game genie doesn't work at all. You enter a code and it just goes to a black screen. I tried this on Mario All-Stars and Final Fight.
Testing on the regular SNES game genie works fine on final fight, and all-stars.
Using the FCtwin game genie works fine on final fight and all-stars.
Mario All-Stars, and Kirby Super Star are not FX-Chip games. But have the extra parts of the board that the Game Genie doesn't have slots for. So pretty clear which ones don't work.

If you are interested in purchasing any systems let me know. I'd sell a full size SNES or the FCtwin.
