First off, I never said that. Also, I think it's totally logical, and in human nature, to share my opinion on the next generation of consoles going by the information we currently have. You don't have to be a jerk about it.Yancakes wrote:"I think the 8th gen will suck because I'm not interested in it."![]()
It's completely illogical to judge any system (or an entire generation) until each system has been released and been out for a decent amount of time. Pre-release mudslinging reminds me of being a 13 year old on the GamePro forums.
Regardless, I typically wait to get in to current gen gaming until about a year or more in. This way I can see which console has issues, which company stepped up, acknowledged and fixed issues, and obviously what games have been released.
I basically wait to buy new consoles until old consoles stop getting EA NHL releases

I'm looking forward to it, though I'm dreading all of the anti used game nonsense that's going on.
I almost never buy games used as it is if I can avoid it. I'm thinking in the long term, when as others have pointed out, new copies of games won't be available anymore. I'd bet the only plan they have in mind for this is "charge double for the download version".
I'm just being grumpy about it though. I'm excited to see what's coming and I won't make any assumptions about it, good or bad.
As for innovation, they did get creative this generation with motion/touch screen stuff, but for me its the games that should innovate. The systems nowadays are just the way to deliver the games. They could come out with a plain box with a controller, and I'd buy it with pleasure if the games caught my eye.

Because they want to make tens of billions, then hundreds of billions. Why have profit when you can have more profit? You can keep going until you start milking grandmas with motion sports games and casual handheld crap. Meanwhile at Nintendo...MrPopo wrote:Because of the costs of production.pankakes123 wrote:They already make billions of dollars, why do they need more?

Agreed 100%. The Wiimote was great, but it wasn't even fully and properly utilized until recently, in the system's twilight, because they spent so much time and energy working on a cool controller but... well, who cares when the Wii went so long with so few games worth playing?CFFJR wrote:As for innovation, they did get creative this generation with motion/touch screen stuff, but for me its the games that should innovate. That... doesn't make any sense. Even AFTER production, EA is still a multi-billion dollar company. Activision too, and I'm sure Ubisoft is as well. Actually, all of the major game developers/publishers are multi-billion dollar companies. Their greed is ruining gaming. 5 years ago if you told me I'd become a retro gamer I would've said nonsense, I have Halo 3! But now the industry's greed has forced me to whip out the N64 and Dreamcast, which I enjoy playing and collecting for a lot, but it would still be nice to fully experience a current gen game without having to buy DLC...

Which is why I rarely if ever buy a game under a year old. If the DLC is worth getting, there's usually a GotY edition with all of it pre-included. I'm seriously hoping this is what Square does for XIII-2.
Re: Why I think 8th Gen Will Suck.
I dunno, if I had a billion dollars, I would want two. If I had ten billion dollars, I would want twenty. I wouldn't say their greed is ruining the video game industry, I'd say the dynamics of the video game industry have changed. It's not just nerds that play games anymore, hence the rise of the brogamer archetype, and there are far more casual gamers/brogamers than there are "hardcore" gamers/nerds.
There are still fun, cool, creative games being released all the time (and for every system), but they're rarely the biggest hits anymore. Just look around for them.
And I apologize if I came off as a jerk, I was having flashbacks of the Console Wars
(which dear god I'm glad have basically ended).

Wait a second... are you saying companies want to make money?pankakes123 wrote:MrPopo wrote:Because of the costs of production.pankakes123 wrote:They already make billions of dollars, why do they need more?

My mind has been blown.
On a more serious note, you don't seem to really understand businesses. I can sell billions of dollars worth of products but only make a few million dollars because of the difference between revenue and profits.
