3D games, like non-2D games, not 3DS games

I thought my meaning was obvious given what the topic is about, but thanks for clearing that up for others

3DS helps smooth jagged edges somewhat. Useful for certain games. Others may look a bit washed out.

Features wise it's very similar to DSi. DSi games will run in DSi mode complete with WPA wifi. Standard DS games remain unfortunately affected by the DSi-inherited decision of providing fewer system language options.

Wow, that is quite a difference. The colors look way better on the 3DS but the text does look sharper on the DS. I guess I'd rather have the better colors, as the text is still quite readable; it's not like Dead Rising on an SDTV or anything.

There is a most notable difference between the DS Lite and 3DS. DS games look FAR better on the DS Lite, although they are still very playable on the 3DS, they just look a bit more... flat and dull, ironically.

I've definitely noticed a difference, but I've always felt that one wasn't really any better than the other; as has been said, the colors look better on the 3DS, but the images are sharper on the DS. I, personally, don't have a preference, so I usually just use my 3DS.

I don't know if Meteos has it especially bad, but I tried to play it on 3DS, and it looks really washed out, not good at all. Could be it bothers someone less than it bothers me, but I'm not usually afraid of reducing graphical quality on PC games, although native resolution I'm pretty bitch about on PC as well. Having Meteos running on DS native res mode makes the image just too small, and it lacks that important feel when playing portable console, the feel that the image takes all of the screen, feel of efficiency and compactness, you know. Hard to explain. It breaks the connection with game and system, and for me that personal connection with portable device is important. Or something like that... Anyway, DS lite is my system of choice for DS games, it has that crazy battery life too. If you haven't played DS games before, I supposed playing them on 3DS would fine as you wouldn't know of better.

3DS speakers actually allow you to hear the distortion of the sounds better as well. I was surprised to hear very audible constant hiss and general low quality of audio. Controls are not as nice either, as d-pad placed worse and it's harder to land diagonals. I suppose my DS lite is of later production where d-pad issues were fixed, not that Nintendo d-pads are ever that great. DS lite is also bit more comfortable, not just because of d-pad placement. All around inferior gaming experience to play DS games on 3DS instead of DS. To me, anyway. You have to decide for yourself, whether 3DS is satisfactory.

E: Your best bet may be to buy cheap DS now, and wait for 3DS revision and localizations for games that are release in Japan along this year, that'll be the sweet spot for 3DS purchase. Not that it isn't great system currently, but you have countless DS games to play as well. I did that with PSP/Vita. Vita is in no way worth buying software wise right now and backwards compatibility is limited, so I bought PSP Go, which is compact as hell and runs all games with CFW. Vita perhaps in couple years, if it sells enough.
