Saturn S-video cable

S-video makes a huge difference from composite, even w/off brand cables. I can't believe these have gotten so hard to find. It's probably because the DIN connector that plugs into the saturn is also very elusive. I don't even remember being able to find those, ever.

With how easy it is to just add an s-video jack on the back, I'll probably do that on future systems. I've done it before, though I sold that particular console. I just mounted the jack itself to the door panel for the backup battery. It's only a matter of soldering like 3 wires (though, it is in a tiny area. Still not the hardest solder job in the world)

Oh really? Care to elaborate? I wouldn't mind having the option of something besides composite on my Saturn.

Exactly what points do you need to solder to to get S-Video out?

All you need are chroma, luma, and ground. If you look at the pinout for the jack, on the bottom of the motherboard is an array of pins that mirror or match it. Just solder to the appropriate pins for chroma and luma, and find a ground point. While you're in there, you could grab audio too, or you could just use your composite a/v cables just for sound. If I have an extra saturn laying around I'll take some pics but I'm not promising anything

I have heard that scart looks fantastic almost to smooth and the box does say hd which i assume is 480p maby 640 by 480 but the thing is i love hoe s-video looks.

It shows all the beautiful colors with total clarity but still retains that semi regid and classic saturn look and truthfully i don't feel the need to spend all the money to upgrade to scart when it looks beautiful as-is

The thing is i have a 55inch lcd hdtv and composit systems look not very good except wii which is a notch up. All iwanted was to play my saturn on my big screen without loseing quality. Basically i wanted it to just look as good as crt but what i found is it looks much better even on a 55inch. I play raman, gurdian hero's, clockwork knight 2 and panzer and wow they looked perfect the colors on edge in panzer were so bright and vibrant i was very happy.

the cutscenes look a bit boxie but thats how saturn looks


Also my dreamcast with vga is truly the way it is meant to be played. If you own a saturn and a dreamcast both these cables and boxes are a must have. I bought mine on ebay from a person who makes them for i think 15 bucks

Just finished installing the S-video port on my Saturn, it works like a dream! I can't believe how sharp and vibrant everything looks now. It's amazing!

I can't get it to sit level, the holder for the watch battery is in the way. Other than that, it's just what I wanted

Ya know, I was actually intending on doing that. I accidentally put JAPAN on the first 2 I did and just ended up shortening it instead of doing what I had set out to do.
