I'd recommend slogging through piles of Gyromite carts in shops until you locate one with a converter. It's worth the trouble and you'll end up finding some other goodies along the way.
More than that, just grab a Famicom. A loose one is pretty affordable unless you are stuck on getting an AV.

I'm really wondering where you folks are finding stacks of Gyromite carts. Maybe it's just a regional thing, since I've done most of my collecting in the southeastern U.S., and I don't spend a lot of time at flea markets, but I think I've seen fewer than five gyromite carts in the wild in my life. I've seen quite a few Gyromite carts. I'm in the midwest though.

Also, no offense to Gyromite (or anyone who is the biggest Gyromite fan ever), but the only reason me or any of my friends even know what it is is because of the adapter.
