And I felt it was one of the most over-hyped platformers on the Genesis. It wasn't bad by any means, but it wasn't as good as a Sonic game, which it was constantly compared to.lisalover1 wrote:I still maintain that Ristar is the best platformer on the Genesis. Re: 15 Genesis must haves
I've heard a lot of people say that they LOVE Ristar and a lot of people say that they HATE Ristar. Once I get a few more games for the systems where my collection is lacking a little, I plan to get that game and see for myself.

Ristar is pretty good, but it's not the best Genesis platformer. That award goes to Rocket Knight Adventures.

If your talking about Ristar, yes it is a great platformer.

I think he was originally suppose to be the mascot for sega before sonic.

Really? I thought Alex Kidd was, but that game looks great for being on the genesis I'll have to look into that one, guess I could emulate but it's nothing like playing the real thing

Ristar was sort of a prototype of Sonic.fredthezombie wrote:Really? I thought Alex Kidd was, but that game looks great for being on the genesis I'll have to look into that one, guess I could emulate but it's nothing like playing the real thing
wikipedia wrote:At first we used a character that looked like a rabbit with ears that could extend and pick up objects. As the game got faster and faster, we needed to come up with a special characteristic to give our character some power over his enemies. I remembered a character I had thought about years ago who could roll himself into a ball and slam into enemies. Hedgehogs can roll themselves into a ball, so we decided to go from a rabbit to a hedgehog.

This is an excellent list. Every game here is a real winner. However, I'd take SSFII and MK out since you can find compilation discs with the arcade versions easily. In their place, I'd add the Shinobi series and the Strike series. Shinobi III is simply a superlative game, but don't overlook The Revenge of Shinobi or Shadow Dancer. The Strike games were originally developed on the Genesis, and are fantastic games once you figure out their idiosyncrasies.EllertMichael wrote: Here's a list:
Streets of Rage
Toaplan shooters
Vectorman
Gunstar Heroes
Shining Force
Mortal Kombat
Super Street Fighter II
Rocket Knight Adventures
Ecco the Dolphin
Castlevania Bloodlines
Contra Hard Corps
Thunder Force III
TMNT: The Hyperstone Heist
Toe Jam & Earl
Road Rash
What types of games are you looking to check out on the Genesis?
