Not sure I agree with your assessment that "it must have sold well".GameMasterGuy wrote:Not really a hidden gem, it must have sold well to get an iPod version.chupon wrote:Ghost Trick should be on the list.
Sometimes games get ported to other systems to try and recoup costs by expanding the market (assuming it's easier to port an existing game than to create something new). Capcom also has experience porting Pheonix Wright games to iOS, and are known for porting and re-releasing whenever possible.
So the game might have sold well, but getting an iOS port does not count as meaningful proof of that assumption without something more backing it up...

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that ghost trick's sales were pretty awful. Judging by how quick it dropped it price, I'd assume it's true.GameMasterGuy wrote:Not really a hidden gem, it must have sold well to get an iPod version.chupon wrote:Ghost Trick should be on the list.

Maestro: Jump in to Music!
A cute rythm game that was never released in North America (to my knowledge). You play a bird on a wire, and you strum the wire in tune with the music. Super cute and super fun! Pretty challenging at times, too.
There's also an NDS version of the Amazeing Labyrinth board game that my wife and I have a lot of fun playing hotseat games of when we're travelling.

I beat that in January and loved it. For those interested in this game people at CAG have reported almost every Five Below store having the game for $5.jay_red wrote:Monster Tale is one that will certainly become a hidden gem down the road. Its like a mix of metroidvania style exploring with a little bit of Pokemon, its an awesome game though.
I would also like to add Might & Magic Clash of the Heroes to the list. Its a cross between Might and Magic, Shining Force, and Puzzle Quest. It's worth checking out.
Re: Hidden Gems NDS
There are also good versions of Carcassonne and Scotland Yard on DS, although I don't believe they ever saw release in North America. (A less polished Catan game is available too... but I'd suggest that the others mentioned above are better choices.) Sadly all seem to be quite difficult to find at the moment - if I'm wrong, someone please let me know.Yancakes wrote: ...

Video game versions of board games are probably a niche interest, but Catan and Carcassonne and Ticket to Ride have all seen moderate success on XBLA. I wonder if those releases are what prevented the DS games from getting released in this region?
Edit:: A bit of research suggests I'm wrong. Catan and Carcassonne are tough to find here, but the Amazeing Labyrinth game (called simply "Labyrinth") and Scotland Yard were both released in North America by ThinkSMART Games. Amazon.com has them available at very resonable prices.
This is much closer to what I've heard: that sales on DS were very weak, despite aggressive price drops. But I haven't seen proof of either claim.alienjesus wrote:I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that ghost trick's sales were pretty awful. I will say that Ghost Trick is well worth playing. Anyone who skipped the game on release should give it a shot, keeping in mind that the iOS port gives free access to the first part of the game.
Re: Hidden Gems NDS
I would rather play Settlers of Catan by myself than play the awful DS version (which is the same, basically, as the version that was released for smartphones etc.- the AI in it is freaking AWFUL).

Knights in the Knightmare- This game is so unique I can't even label it in a genre....because no genre can truly describe it. If you can find it check it out, its one of my favorite games on the system.

I can't grasp how you would pla Catan against an AI. Or Diplomacy, for that matter.Yancakes wrote:I would rather play Settlers of Catan by myself than play the awful DS version (which is the same, basically, as the version that was released for smartphones etc.- the AI in it is freaking AWFUL).

Wikipedia calls it an RTS RPG Shooter.Godot102 wrote:Knights in the Knightmare- This game is so unique I can't even label it in a genre....because no genre can truly describe it. If you can find it check it out, its one of my favorite games on the system.
