Rayman Origins: singing critters

There are little creatures in Rayman Origins that you collect as part of the gameplay. They sing happy little songs that blend into the soundtrack and almost make the game feel like a musical.

OutRun: Music selection

Similar to the GTA example and actually the game that paved the way to it in it's use of music, OutRun uses a simple song selection screen at the beginning of the game so as to directly involve the player in the game.

OutRun is a quite personal game at it's core. It has very specific themes and more than anything it's Yu Suzuki's ideal of driving, an ideal that you can relate to but it's obviously his. Through the music select screen you are invited to make that ideal a bit more of your own, a way to get into the game. It's not more about what someone else likes but about what you do. Really great ideas here.

Turbo OutRun was also the first game to introduce the radio DJ as far as I'm aware.
EDIT: Sorry, it's OutRunners, not Turbo OutRun

No mention of Ape Escape? When you crouch down, the song changes to a more mellow. quiet version with less instruments but the same beat etc. Really unique

Radio Static in the original Silent Hill games. When you are near a monster, your radio gives out static which gets stronger the more closer you get.

My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box

Music Gun Gun combines the light gun shooter and rhythm genres.

I hope indie games count.

I found this game really cool. Playing 4 games at once can be daunting, but the music playing in the background actually tells you how to control and play each one. Really funny song, and very creative way to blend tutorial with background music.
