I think these count as pretty weird games. But I think a lot of it has to do with culture. Some of the stuff we find weird, people in japan might think of it as normal, and vice a versa. For instance we might think of shaq fu and micheal Jorden in Windy city as normal games because we are use to product placement, but in japan I think they might find the premise of these games weird.

The object isn't to spank. It has nothing to do with spanking. It's to "ddong-chim" (Korean) or "koncho" (Japanese) the opponent. VERY different from spanking! The guy doing in the video was not using the special "controller", and is therefore misleading every view.insanecow0 wrote:For example, Korea has Boonga Boonga, an arcade game where the objective is to spank people ranging from your mother in law to a child molester (I had a hard time believing such a game exists at first too lol)
Yes, I've played it before. It's in both Korea and Japan. It is kind of from Japan, although I'm pretty sure it was developed in Korea.

I guess you've never played the NES game called "Adventure Island." The main character is a real celebrity, just like Jorden or Shaq. There are other examples. TONS of product placement in Japanese games.pepharytheworm wrote:For instance we might think of shaq fu and micheal Jorden in Windy city as normal games because we are use to product placement, but in japan I think they might find the premise of these games weird.

No, I have played Adventure Island. But during the 80's I had no clue of his celebrity. That's my whole point, to us Adventure Island was just another platformer, but had a different meaning to a Japanese audience.Breetai wrote:I guess you've never played the NES game called "Adventure Island." I have no idea how popular Jordan and Shaq are in japan, they were just some examples of easily recognizable american celebrities. I know Japan has product placement but it will not be the same as ours, again look at your Adventure Island reference. Think of also all the manga and anime inspired games that made it here in the 80's and early 90's but we were not exposed to the root sources, there are a lot more weird not knowing the source material. I think TMNT is considered for the most part pretty normal in the US but other countries only exposed to the games I can see them finding them pretty weird.

Super Meatboy and The Binding of Isaac. Their both developed by the same people and have a brilliantly twisted sense of humour as well as being fiendishly difficult.

^I thought they were developed by different groups.
Uhh, Conkers. C'mon, there's a giant singing shit, zombies, busty sunflowers, cavepeoples, and so much more.
Seriously though, there's a singing shit. That's pretty damned weird.
