Okay, first get some fine wine, probably one of those scented candles...
and she asked me to teach her how to play video games.
...never mind.

My wife's favorite games are:

Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance (great co-op)
Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance 2 (not as good as the first game, but still it still has great co-op)
Ico (no co-op, but nonetheless a delightful game with mature presentation)
Katamari Damacy (simple controls and great music)
We <3 Katamari (more of what made Katamari Damacy so great)

She also wants to take another shot at The Adventures of Cookie and Cream.

I hope that helps.

For a first timer it needs to be a game that is really simple.
So anything with a lightgun, kart games, 2 platformers, virtua fighter (you don't need skill to play it) and puzzle games. maybe animale crossing but that game is a bit big for a first time.

That's odd, they don't mention it anywhere on the box.

Thanks, Noise.

Apparently the PS2 version also has co-op after you beat the game...who knew? (Although, I think that Yorda not standing there completely helpless while the hero has to fight or solve puzzle would detract from the game a bit...)

no they did not... but I did beat Ico on PS3, so I'll have to test this later.

I don't think the co-op would be all that great for the person playing Yorda, but not having her get stuck every three steps (or every single one on stairs) would make the game much more enjoyable for me. And if neither of you have played before (playing on someone else's console, perhaps) the combined heads could be fun for puzzle-solving, not that they're ever particularly difficult.
