How do you intrepret value?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

If you can see the future while remembering the past, you may just have control of the present.

I understand! Its hard to buy a game for 60$ and then have it drop to half that price two months later. Hell, if new games retained their value at all I wouldn't care about paying 60$ for it. But in the age of GOTY editions and DLC, Its hard to pay that when a year later all the games are rereleased for cheap with more content.

^^^ exactly.

My normal cutoff for a game is $20 but I'll go higher if it's something really special, like Xenoblade this year or Super Metroid whenever. Xenoblade is only going to get more expensive so it's good to preorder. However, even if your cutoff is $5 you can get way more games than you have time to play. Just play what you want!

No shame. Though I'm waiting for the PC version.

Anyways, value varies a ton for me. I have trouble justifying $30 for a retro game but I'll happily pay $40-60 for a new release.

To go more in depth though, I worry more about the experience I'll have, and if that experience is worth the money. A lot of people complained about Dear Esthers length and content but I felt it was completely worth it. Then some people say Skyrim is amazing and worth it but I just can't bring myself to spend $60 on it.

As far as other things, they basically get stacked by necessity. Flight school etc. are at the top, while games and other such things are towards the bottom.

Why would you be willing to pay more for something guaranteed to significantly drop in value (possibly very quickly, depending on the game and how many copies were/will be printed) instead of something that is no longer in print that is always going to retain it's price due to supply/demand and the fact it will never be printed again?

I'm willing to pay more knowing I'm (at least in a small way) supporting a developer.

Same reason I don't buy used recently released games.

More attention should be payed to the latter part of the post, that explains my position more thoroughly. If the experience is worth it, old or new, I'll pay the asking price.

i'm assuming you mean how i decide if i game is 'worth it' ?

there's a few factors i guess. i tend to look at a game's score & watch gameplay videos on youtube. if i like what i see i usually spring for the purchase if i like the game's art. i don't tend to buy games that end up costing me more than $30 shipped; i guess that's just a magic number that ended up working with my gaming budget. sometimes i'll watch reviews on youtube & the people will still recommend them for reasons such as nostalgic charm or being underrated that will convince me otherwise.
