If this happens, it will be the gaming news story of the year.
I love Notch for doing stuff like this.

Keep in mind that this is not a donation. He's likely to get money back plus more unless the game is a complete bust.

yeah but this is clearly a move fueled by fandom not investment opportunity

I remember I was in a video game store around the time that Psychonauts came out... Loud and obnoxious teenager that I was, I recommended a random customer who asked get Psychonauts. He said "I'm not into those kiddie-style games." I wish I could say I promptly kicked him in the testicles, but suffice it to say no Psychonauts were sold that day. This is the best news I've ever heard. And Notch ensures it'll get a proper PC release, too.

Psychonauts is my third favorite game of all time, only behind Earthbound and its sequel. I'm not getting my hopes up, anything could go wrong, but this certainly looks promising.
Is that a 3DS XL in your pocket, or are you just glad to see me? ~ZeroAX

https://twitter.com/#!/TimOfLegend Some more info from Schafer's twitter page:
If you're wondering about @notch’s generous offer to help Psychonauts 2 happen, all I can say is that we are having a lovely chat about it! These things take time to figure out--if they can be figured out--so please don’t expect any Psychonauts 2 announcements any time soon. (Or “PsychoNotch” as he’s insisting we call it. The guy is a hard negotiator, let me tell you. And that ego!) But… on the topic of using non-traditional game funding to fulfill fan requests, we WILL be making an announcement later today!
