They have pitched the idea of a younger group from about 95 onward. But from time to time the issue of wanting the whole group in the movie to pass the torch (mostly the Studio's fault) and Bill Murray had been saying no since '90. He also has a deciding control which was given to him as a bargain to do Ghostbusters II. There almost wasn't a Ghostbusters II because of Murray and he is one main reason why The Real Ghostbusters had to look so different (also because the Studio thought if they all looked too similar they would confuse the kids), and the reason why mid way through the series the voice actor of Peter Venkman was replaced with Dave Coulier (Gag!). Bill Murray has been a thorn in the side of the franchise for a long time.
The entire reason Extreme Ghostbusters was made was because Sony wanted to test the market and see if people would like Ghostbusters without the original cast. Unfortunately Sony basically sabotaged the whole thing by allowing it to be shown on weekday mornings at a time when most people who would watch it and appreciate it weren't even home. In my neck of the woods it played at like 9:00am! I had already been at school for a couple hours by then and most people who saw the movie when it opened in theaters were probably at work. It should of been shown back to back with MIB The Series on Saturday mornings, that would of been a huge hit.
There were some small issues with the show, but it continued to get better before it went off the air. They also got a lot of the original staff that made Real Ghostbusters to make Extreme, which helped a lot of the stories flow the same and the mythos/canon flow real well. Watch the 2 part Back in The Saddle and see what potential the series could of been and basically what Ghostbusters 3 was planned to be like.
Ghostbusters.
Re: Ghostbusters.
A 3rd movie isn't necessary.
It's such a Hollywood thing to revive an old series! Die Hard, Indiana Jones, Rambo etc etc etc

If each mistake being made is a new one, then progress is being made.
Re: Ghostbusters.
There are some great scripts out there, but sorry guys, it's not going to happen. As mentioned earlier in this thread, Ramis and Murray don't exactly go out with each other and share a milkshake. And unless Murray is ever hard up for money (won't happen) GB3 won't see the light of day.
I'm not saying "never", I'm saying not for a long time. Which is a shame, because there is a great script floating around where essentially it's a "pass the torch" type story that would work really well.
Don't count out Indiana Jones V though.

Re: Ghostbusters.
Indeed, Bill actually ignored Harold for a long time and even Dan to an extent. Harold and Bill has been friends for a long time, it was kind of sad.
But they have all been on good speaking terms since the video game. Bill actually for the first time didn't bitch about fans asking him about Ghostbusters! But he seems to have relapsed back into hating being involved again.

Re: Ghostbusters.
Oh for sure; and you're right on all accounts. I won't make accusations as who is the main culprit of not wanting to make GB3 happen, as all three (poor Ernie Hudson always gets left out) have been known to not be the best to work with. I say that while also keeping in mind which sources have said that.KDub wrote:Indeed, Bill actually ignored Harold for a long time and even Dan to an extent. The game actually being released was a dream come true to me, and I think everyone thought all the fences were mended, and that for sure a new GB movie was in the works. I'm not positive, and I don't think I can find out, but from what I've heard the voice acting for the game was somewhat of an extension of the olive branch. Then again, it's not like the boys were all in the recording booth at the same time (I wouldn't be the slightest surprised if one condition was "so and so cannot be in the same studio...").
Too many cooks in the kitchen on this one for a GB3 to even start. Ramis is simply brilliant (and for you guys not in the know, Egon probably wrote the majority of your favorite comedies from the 80/90's) but also stubborn as a mule.
And KDub, love your posts, but please don't hate on Dave Coulier. He has some great acts
Re: Ghostbusters.
Yeah I don't think any of the voice acting was done with them at the same time, which makes it even better acted when you think about it. I believe some of that was required to keep the peace, but the process seemed to loosen them back up to talk again if I remember some of what was said in interviews correctly.
The Wii version was the best cut of the voice acting to cut scene ratio in my opinion, flowed way way better.
I do feel bad about Ernie, he is a key character but last to know everything. But some of that comes from the fact that he doesn't have much creative input and has admitted to be mostly interested in a pay check. But he does love the franchise so he is all golden in my book.
As much as I love Dan, Harold is the reason why we have Ghostbusters the way we do today. Dan's original ideas for both movies were so far out there it was scary (though also really really crazy cool). Such as space and time travel while busting ghosts in different dimensions
. So, I'm kinda glad he is a little bit OCD when it comes to these scripts, but yes that can be hard to work with.
And I don't fully hate Dave Coulier, but Lorenzo Music was a much better Dr. Peter Venkman. Bill originally complained that Lorenzo sounded too much like him (he has issues with likeness) and then when they didn't replace him he complained that he sounded too much like Garfield (which is the most credited reason). Of course as we know Bill went on to play Garfield in some awful movies....shame on you Bill.

Re: Ghostbusters.
Lorenzo totally killed in GARFIELD CHRISTMAS. He's more Bill Murray than Bill Murray in that performance.KDub wrote: Of course as we know Bill went on to play Garfield in some awful movies....shame on you Bill.

Re: Ghostbusters.
Haha thanks. Ghostbusters is my my big geeky passion, I will always love the franchise. I'm the guy with a full fledged flight suit and a proton pack on Halloween (and whenever else I can have an excuse to wear it, like when it is chilly).Luke wrote:Lorenzo totally killed in GARFIELD CHRISTMAS.
