Speaking of Amazon, what's with them asking for my tax info? Anyone know the low down on that? *flashes MrPopo beam*

Amazon is mostly good for new games. You get free shipping from certain sellers if you spend $25 or more. Used can be hit or miss regarding pricing, tho I've found that with newer releases, Amazon is ALWAYS cheaper than Gamestop. When you get several years removed than it becomes a matter of checking prices + shipping versus no shipping, like what you ran into.

The way it works for third party sellers is sellers who use the Fullfilment by Amazon system can take advantage of Prime and Super Saver. The way FBA works is they send Amazon their products and they get stored in the Amazon FCs the same way Amazon-owned inventory does. So they can leverage all the same shipping options that a regular Amazon shipment can. I think it costs an extra couple of cents/item on the seller end to be Prime and Super Saver eligible, but I've never met an FBA seller who didn't take advantage of it. From a consumer end, being able to get free two day shipping on an item (or free slow shipping if you're not a Prime customer) is huge. I know people who will spend more on an FBA item than a non-FBA item because of the confidence in the shipping (not a lot more, mind you).

I no longer work for Amazon; I'm at Microsoft now. But I remember seeing the news stories whenever it was Amazon vs. local state taxes. New York was one of the bigger ones, so it might be related to that. I haven't kept too abreast of the ongoing sales tax debate because I automatically pay sales tax on all Amazon purchases (as well as Nintendo and Valve, as all three are headquartered here).

Last year a law passed that online marketplaces like Amazon and Ebay/Paypal had to report the earnings of sellers who made over 20K and 200 sales in a given tax year. So you pretty much have to supply Amazon with your tax information if you want to sell (not sure what the requirement there is), but if you don't make over 20K in sales in a year, you don't have to worry about it otherwise.

I've been toying idea of restarting my college education in the pacific northwest (my first 1.5 years went... poorly) and now... Oregon it is!

I mean, sales tax on Steam, Nintendo and Amazon, or... No sales tax.

Ah, I was just worried that they were going to try and get some money out of me with the whole thing. I didn't make over 20k is sales though, I but made 200 sales last year. Hopefully I'm in the clear with it, because there's a lot of stuff I need to list.
