Yes I've heard of the capcom stick before, don't think it was ever sold over here though. I'll keep a look out for a cheap one, but in the mean time is the official 6 button stick better or worse than this one:

I'm guessing that this one is a piece of crap though:

Any finally anybody ever used this one:

Never seen that last one before, and although its only got 3 buttons I might consider it as I'll mainly use it for shooters anyway.

Hoestly these are all crap IMO, especially compared to what capcom put out there at the time. There is one on ebay for the MD but it's a bit pricey. May be worth a look though...

I have that one and I think it is ok. Certainly nowhere near as good as the CFS, but it works as long as it isn't abused or in need of TLC. I recently got the official Sega 6 button stick and I think it is nicer, but both will do the job for most games IMHO.

Cool, so I'll look for capcom, the official one or the one above in that order. The official one is the cheapest and the buttons look pretty on on it so I'll probably get that one. Thanks for all the advice everyone.

I really like the 3-button Arcade Power Stick by Sega. It's not microswitched, but it still works great. The Japanese version of the stick is apparently microswitched, though. What I like about it is that it is nice and heavy, it feels really solid. I also love the hand rest on the side. It's hard for me to use joysticks without this hand rest. I don't play games while standing up with the stick way below me, so the hand rest is required. There is a 6-button version of the stick but it is not as good as the 3 button version. It feels much cheaper and is much, much lighter. Not sure if the stick is microswitched. To be honest, I've never noticed performance improvements in microswitched sticks but many people swear on them as if non-microswitched sticks don't even work or gives them cooties. I don't like the Capcom stick because it is split in half like one of those ergonomic keyboards that drive me nuts. I'm not a cripple, I don't need a split keyboard or joystick! That said, I'm a control pad user for life.

Slightly off topic: The Neo Geo control pad that uses microswitches is a bitch because the d-pad will stop working in any given direction. Microswitches aren't tremendously reliable. They need constant cleaning. I worked with a lot of microswitch devices in the projection booth at an old job. They failed a lot, getting stuck either on or off and causing lots of damage. I replaced them with phase control devices which used LED light intensity to drive them. Never a problem after that.

Personally I like them for fighting games because I can feel and hear when a roll is complete and time the button presses to suit, but I certainly would utterly discount a non-microswitched stick.

I like the look of that hand rest as well, as I generally used an arcade stick with it on my lap, rather than, as you say, standing a good distance above it with my arms straighter like on a cab.

So what I gather from this thread is that the either of the official sticks are decent for what they are, and are generally better than all the competition other than the capcom stick, but generally not as good as any of the sticks that I have for later console.

I have the 3 button Arcade Power Stick. Somewhere in my stuff.

I have seen the sega six button one before, but I've never owned one.

wow - all those quickshot controllers bring back some memories! I had a couple of different ones for NES and Genesis.. they were absolute garbage.. every design they made was horrid.
