Glad it worked out, if my ROB ever has this issue I'll do the same as I did for the upper arm assembly. Was it the gear assembly on the right? Can you post either here or at the ROB Repair Guide another pic with a view of the glue fix along with a few words in the steps you took? Any precaution to watch for while gluing or assembling and how you tested to discover the gear slippage.ReddMcKnight wrote:After performing the Glue Trick, I got it working perfectly! You can pop batteries in and run a couple of jumper wires, temporarily touching the terminals of the motor in the pic. Stay away from the PCB, you might fry it. Temporally make contact with the motor and observe the gears. You can figure out how everything is supposed to turn by running the motor. My guess is that silver hub on the right with the spring clip is slipping.
Be absolutely sure if you do the glue method. See if the slip is really bad or if something else inside might be causing the binding. Take out the entire gear assembly, see if ROB can be twisted by hand. While the gear assembly is out you can see how the spring clip acts as a clutch, it should not be loose. The easy fix is a liquid nails with a toothpick.I truly appreciate it!

What exactly was glued? If the clutch mechanism was glued so it was solid and no longer slips in a controlled manner when binding, that could lead to it stripping a gear instead or something. Granted it probably isn't going to get hours of use like it might have back in the day, but still.

The spring clip "clutch" wears out over the years, gets to the point that it freewheels. The binding is a concern, the reason why I posted to see if ROB will spin by hand with the gears removed. From Redd's reply doesn't seem like it was a binding issue, waiting for a followup reply. Ideally its better to get a new assembly, but that would be hard to find. I had to fix the arm mechanism on my ROB by locking the clutch up with a Liquid Nails glue. Slapping some grease on the gears also helps.Hobie-wan wrote:What exactly was glued? Honestly, I'd rather not open it up again, but if you look at my pic of the open white box, you can see what appears to be a circular black ribbon between the metal wheel and gear. That's where I applied the glue. I used super glue, and I applied it directly out of the small tube it came in. As for precautions, just be careful to make sure you don't glue your fingers together.CRTGAMER wrote:Glad it worked out, if my ROB ever has this issue I'll do the same as I did for the upper arm assembly. Sounds like an identical fix as in the arm gear assembly. If okay with you I'll add your information to the ROB Repair Guide.ReddMcKnight wrote:Honestly, I'd rather not open it up again, but if you look at my pic of the open white box, you can see what appears to be a circular black ribbon between the metal wheel and gear. A pic of the arm gear assembly, I applied glue on the black spring clip ribbon between the white gear and shiny hub. Note that the arm gear has two spring clip "clutches" only one needed the glue fix. You spinner gear repair looks to have that same clip, glue repair in the same place?

I applied the glue exactly where you described.
