Sweet, I'm curious as to what others use as I don't have any of this 3-in-One stuff. haha
How long does it seem to last before having to do it again?
Questions about n64 accessories
Re: Questions about n64 accessories
You can get 3-In-One in any hardware store. You can also get it in pretty much any department store, drug store, super market, etc. I'm guessing most people use a lithium grease. You can get that in any hardware store as well. In fact, I think the 3-In-One brand makes a lithium grease too.
How long does the 3-In-One last? A long time. In fact, I'll wager that it lasts as long, if not longer than a lithium grease. Like I said, I put 3-In-One on the gears in one of my Wah pedals and that was years ago. I'd have to guess about 7 or 8 years now. The earliest N64 stick that I cleaned and lubed was at least a year ago, maybe more. That joystick is still lubed fine. Like I said, the 3-In-One seems to coat plastic and stay there. It's like an oily residue that wont wear away.

+1 to Ziggy for his creative solution. I think it was SimpleHumar who was selling grease at one time. But like Ziggy says, most people have a can of lithium grease around. I'll have to open my joy sticks up the next time I play the N64.

Man, I am in the minority. I don't have netflix or lithium grease. I'm usually stocked up on WD40 though. haha
Re: Questions about n64 accessories
Well 3-In-One isn't a lithium grease, it's an oil. But every household should have it in a closet, if not in a tool chest or on a work bench. Who doesn't have squeaky door hinges and whatnot?

It was s1mplehumar that had it. He took it off his trade thread, but I'm pretty sure he still has some. PM him and ask.
Failing that, hobby stores with remote control kits (not premade put batteries in and go ones) should have some grease for plastic gears.

Sorry, I couldn't resist. Honestly, the only time I've heard that name is from reading a Tucker Max story years ago.

Re: Questions about n64 accessories
thanks Ziggy for the great help
1) Do I need special screwdriver to open the n64 joystiq or can I find it off the shelf?
2) What is a brand name for lithium grease? There is no 3-in-1 here
3) cleaning the female connector to the memory card is very hard even with a credit card+cloth
4) Any 1 willing to sell original n64 memory cards ? and how I know the ones am getting are NOT corrupt?

Re: Questions about n64 accessories
You don't need any security bits or anything like that. The controller is held together by philipshead screws. The two that are in the memory card slot are hard to get to, and a smaller size, but they're still regular old philipsheads. Once you get the controller open, you'll see that the stick is mounted with phillipshead screws. Be careful when opening the stick up, there's a spring in there. Watch a tutorial video to get an idea how to take it apart. [/quote]kingmohd84 wrote:1) Do I need special screwdriver to open the n64 joystiq or can I find it off the shelf?
Beats me, but if you can go into any type of hardware or automotive store and ask for lithium grease they'll know what you're talking about.kingmohd84 wrote:2) What is a brand name for lithium grease? There is no 3-in-1 here
You mean it's hard because it's recessed? Well if you open the controller to mess with the joystick, you'll be able to clean that sot a lot easier when the controller is apart.kingmohd84 wrote:3) cleaning the female connector to the memory card is very hard even with a credit card+cloth
I would hold off until you get the controller's cart slot cleaned good. Let's say you buy a brand new memory card from some one, if the controller's cart slot is still dirty you'll just be messing with the new card.kingmohd84 wrote:4) Any 1 willing to sell original n64 memory cards ? and how I know the ones am getting are NOT corrupt?
Also, check the battery inside your memory card. It might just be that the battery is failing, and the card would otherwise work perfectly.
