Re: New Starfox Overclocked

Yeah my mods actually require a lot of hardware experimentation but as you can see I've been able to get some pretty cool results.

The three biggest steps we made in building this were:

1: Discovering that you could solder mario chip and gsu 1 roms onto a gsu 2 cart and it would run fine

Credit goes to: Doug

2: Discovering that you can bypass the on board clock circuit of the gsu 2 and wire a crystal oscillator directly into the gsu2

Credit goes to: Me. Also a major thanks to robivy64 for giving me the idea of using a crystal oscillator.

3: Discovering that using eproms lets you overclock the game to higher speeds (possibly because the eproms we used are faster than the maskroms from superfx carts....but truthfully I don't know exactly why eproms can go faster)

Credit goes to: Nobody we discovered this completely by accident when we built our first batch of commissioned overclock carts. Good thing I felt like sticking a high speed oscillator onto a eprom starfox cart otherwise I might have never made this amazing discovery.

As you can see this was really a big team effort that didn't happen overnight. Without Doug and Robivy64 I'm almost certain this would have never happened.

Oh yeah here's the new video I made that really shows the difference between default speed and overclocked:
